Beginning Saturday, February 26, Global National News will expand to 7-day coverage with the launch of Global National News on Saturdays and Sundays. Anchored by Global National correspondent Tara Nelson, the show will air across the country in Global National’s usual weekday time slot.
“The tremendous success of Global National with Kevin Newman has demonstrated clearly that there is a demand for a Global National News broadcast 7 days a week and we are very pleased to be able to offer viewers Global National on Saturdays and Sundays,” says Steve Wyatt, Vice-President and Editor-in-Chief for Global.
“Tara’s experience and style equip her perfectly to anchor our new weekend newscast and we are thrilled that she has accepted this new challenge,” said Mr. Wyatt.
Tara Nelson began her journalism career in 1991 in Terrace, B.C.. She subsequently moved to what was then ITV in Edmonton, Alberta, where she spent three years co-hosting First News, the morning newscast. Following that, she spent two years honing her investigative skills as TheTroubleshooter. Tara’s next move took her to Victoria where she reported for CH-TV before moving to Global Vancouver and her role as Global National’s west coast correspondent. Tara will continue reporting for Global National in addition to her new duties at the anchor desk on Saturdays and Sundays.
“This is a natural progression for us,” says Mr. Wyatt. “This move into the weekend market allows us to offer our loyal viewers the same top notch news reporting 7 days a week.”
