CTV has inked another deal to bring the next MTV hit to mainstream Canada. CTV President of Programming Susanne Boyce today confirmed an agreement with MTV Networks International for the Canadian conventional broadcast rights to hit series Punk’d, hosted by Ashton Kutcher. The hidden-camera series with a twist is the latest addition to CTV’s top-ranked lineup. Punk’d will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET, beginning September 29 (check local listings) on CTV.

The deal includes the first eight, 30-minute episodes from Season One and additional episodes currently in production. Last March, Punk’d made its television debut on MTV and is one of the U.S. Cable networks highest rated shows, with a per-episode-average of 2.8 million viewers. The last time CTV made a deal for an MTV series, Canadians made The Osbournes a Top 10 show.
Commenting on the deal with MTV Networks International, Boyce said: “MTV are experts in branding exciting, entertaining television that connects with young audiences. We’ve enjoyed the connection Canadians have made with The Osbournes and hope for the same Top 10 results with this latest MTV hit.”
“The partnership with CTV in Canada for Punk’d reflects the confidence broadcasters around the world have in the MTV brand to meet the ever-changing needs of young audiences everywhere,” said Kathleen Hricik, Executive Vice President, International Programme Enterprises, MTV Networks International.
The series follows Kutcher, Jason Goldberg and their team of co-conspirators, as they orchestrate and execute elaborate pranks on celebrities including Justin Timberlake, Kelly Osbourne, Pink, Frankie Muniz, Britney Spears, and many more. It’s reality TV with a twist as Kutcher makes superstars squirm in front of a (hidden) television audience.
With television and film credits that include That 70’s Shown, Just Married and Dude Where’s My Car, Kutcher is one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars and was recently named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” and “25 Hottest Bachelors”. Kutcher and Jason Goldberg (Café Society) are Executive Producers and Co-Creators of Punk’d. Rod Aissa is Producer and Vice President of Talent Development for MTV, Billy Rainey is Executive Producer, Lois Curren is Executive Producer, and David Franke is Executive Producer.
