SPOTLIGHT

CURL GIRLS
Hit the waves with the Curl Girls: six hot, young women navigate the ups and downs of their love lives and careers while spending every free moment in the waves of the Pacific. By entering a competition against each other to win a trip to Hawaii and new surfboards, the ladies find connections that go above and beyond their unified love of surfing and the water. Through tensions and reconciliations, bonds form and each unique personality shines. Which surfer has what it takes to come out on top?
Debuts 10th September - Wednesdays, 8 pm est/5 pm pst

THE AFTERLIFE
World famous Medium Suzane Northrop stars in this OUTtv original series shot in Vancouver. The series is an intimate séance focusing on members of the GLBT community and their deceased loved ones. Of course, channeling isn’t an exact science; we never know who will come through so ‘expect the unexpected!’ Each audience is made up of 15 to 20 people creating the feel of an authentic séance experience. Together with her co-host David Millbern, Suzane comforts audiences
as she spiritually reunites them with those who have passed away.

This show is a journey about healing, and about learning that our loved ones truly do stay with us even when they’ve moved on, to ‘The Afterlife.’ Suzane Northrop is an internationally recognized trance medium, author, teacher, and expert in psychic phenomena. For over the past 30 years, she has worked to bridge the gap between the world of the living and the spirit world. Suzane was part of team of renowned mediums in a study conducted by Dr. Gary Schwartz for an HBO documentary entitled Life After Life, which was documented in the book, The After Life Experiments. Suzane acts as a consultant to the NYC, Hartford CT., Washington DC and LA Police Departments.
Debuts 14th September -Sundays, 7 pm est/4 pm pst. (World broadcast premiere, OUTtv original series).

RHONA
As the first British sitcom to star a lesbian in its lead role, the show's premise provoked obvious comparisons to Ellen. However, the lead character's sexuality was not the focus of the show, which was more concerned with universal themes of friendship, relationships and everyday life. This BBC seems modeled on Seinfeld with its observational humour and Rhona's character in particular being loosely
based on that of neurotic manipulator George Costanza.
Debuts 17th September - Wednesdays, 8:30 pm est/5:30 pm pst

Straight Acting
Sport, like war and religion, is one of the sanctioned places where men are allowed to show love and concern for each other. Produced by Oscar nominated documentary filmmaker Amy Sommer (Waco: The Rules of Engagement), Straight Acting shows one gay man's journey “out of the closet” and onto the rugby pitch, the rodeo circuit and the hockey rink.
Debuts 28th September at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (Canadian broadcast premiere)

18th Century Gay Underworld (Channel 4, UK)
Life in Georgian England, particularly London, has been described as an erotic “Golden Age”, comparable to pre-AIDS San Francisco. After the dreary, repressed years that preceded, there was an explosion of frank and hedonistic sexual encounters before the shutters came down with the turn of the century and the advent of “Victorian” values. This film explores one of the most intriguing secret strata of the 18th century world- the remarkable gay scene that flourished through all levels of society, from the “Molly-Houses” or gay brothels where sex
was readily available, to the public figures with long-term hidden partners. The film also reveals the less well-known existence of Lesbian activity in the 18th century and explores a number of well – documented cases of “tommies”- female transvestites, women who attempted to live, work and even marry as a man.
Debuts 5 October at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (Canadian broadcast premiere)

Camp Out
Follows ten midwestern teenagers as they attend the first overnight Bible Camp for gay Christian youths. For these six boys and four girls, it’s just as hard to come out as Christian as it is to come out as gay. They’re caught in the battle between religion, politics and sexuality that’s raging in the United States today. These kids are outsiders – their straight classmates ostracize them and their churches reject them. But like all teens, they yearn to feel at home, somewhere.
Struggling to find a way to be true to both their spirituality and their sexual identity, these teens come to camp hoping to finally find a place of acceptance.
Debuts 19th October at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (Canadian broadcast premiere)

Conduct Unbecoming (Channel 4, UK)
A revealing, provocative intimate story of how a generation of Gay young men and women fought to keep their sexuality hidden from the military. This doc tells the story of homosexual love caught in the middle of the Second World War and in the line of fire of the military. A generation of young British and American gays were becoming aware of their sexuality when the outbreak of WW2 threw them into the strict rules of the military. In the midst of war, like straight soldiers, gays learned to find lovers and new sexual awakenings began.
Debuts 2nd December at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT

Love in Rimini (Channel 4, UK)
Love in Rimini explores the fascinating relationships between straight men and transsexuals who live in the Italian resort of Rimini. How do men justify their attraction to a transsexual and how does this fit into straight sexual identity? How does the strong Italian macho tradition deal with this phenomenon? In this cultural context, could these relationships be an outlet or cover for gay desire and sexual contact?
Debuts 16th November at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (Canadian premiere)

Occupied!
Filmaker Igal Hecht’s OUTtv original documentary looks at the experiences of Palestinian GLBT Arab community members living in Canada, Israel and Palestine . The film will explore the hardships of being gay in a society where such a life style is punishable by death. In the Palestinian Authority, where Hamas now governs, strict rules about sexuality are enforced. The film is edited in a vérité approach,
utilizing interviews in Canada, Israel and Palestine. Haifa has a festival of love each year, which will serve as a back drop to the film.
Debuts 2nd November at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (World Broadcast premiere. OUTtv original production)

Queer as Old Folk (Channel 4, UK)
This film explores the present day lives and relationships of several gay men who came of age when homosexuality was still illegal, and who are now growing old disgracefully. 58 year old Clive entered a marriage to subdue his urges. He’s still married, although he came out 18 months ago. He’s now a sexual teenager; using Gaydar, cruising saunas and having sex with numerous young men a week. 73 year old Alan came out in his teens, long before homoxsexuality was legal. But
his Mom said it was okay as long as he was in love, and didn’t kiss them. All the men featured made choices about their sex lives and sexual identities pre legalization, and 40 years later, they are still living with the consequences of their choices.
Debuts on 9th November at 6 PM EST, 3PM PT (OUTtv broadcast premiere)
