Nov. 21, 1902: Canada's original play-by-play voice of hockey, Foster Hewitt was born in Toronto. He passed away on April 21, 1985 (82)
Nov. 21, 1947: After a brief test period, Vancouver's first FM station CBR FM 105.7 went on the air. It was a simulcast of CBR, then CBU until 1965. It was known as VE9FG.
Nov. 21, 1965: CKCR 1340 Revelstoke, B.C. signed on the air as a rebroadcaster of its Salmon Arm station.
Nov. 21, 1967: CFNL 590 Fort Nelson B.C. signed on the air as a semi-satellite of CKNL Fort St. John.
Nov. 21, 1977: CKO FM signs on its Vancouver station. CKO was a national news service broadcasting from 6 am-midnight local time. CKO had stations in Toronto, London, Ottawa, and Montreal. In the next 8 years the network would add stations in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Halifax and St. John’s, Nfld. Power was 66,000 watts. Transmittter was on Grouse Mountain. Studios were at 2780 E. Broadway.
Nov. 21, 1981: "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John begins a 10-week run at #1 on the Billboard Top 100 and a 9-week run at #1 on Record World's Singles chart.
Nov. 21, 1995: Canadian TV actor Bruno Gerrussi passed away in West Vancouver, B.C. (76)
Nov. 22, 1963: TV networks across Canada and the United States broadcast the aftermath of the shooting and death of President Kennedy. TV news came of age.
Nov. 23, 1963 at 5:15 pm GMT, the BBC launches "Doctor Who" which stayed on British TV for 26 years and was revived again in 2005.
Nov. 23, 1963: "Shindig" by the Shadows debuts at #17 on the CFUNtastic 50.
Nov. 23, 1993: "The Food Network" launches in the United States.
