Sports Programming: Simple Plan to Record Rock Version of CTV’s The Hockey Theme

CTV Inc. announced today that Montreal’s Simple Plan is the first in a series of Canadian artists who will re-record special renditions of the iconic The Hockey Theme. Simple Plan will record their rendition today in Montreal. The Juno Award-winning band’s unique punk-pop version of the theme will debut during the Boston @ Montreal NHL game on TSN and RDS on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

This spin-off of the hit Emmy®-nominated series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody airs Sundays at 3:51 p.m. ET/PT, beginning October 19. For viewers who can’t wait to see what marine mischief the twins get into, Family.ca is offering an early look at the first two episodes. The first two episodes will premiere on Family on Sunday, October 13 at 6 p.m. ET/PT as part of a Thanksgiving Day marathon.

Programming Highlights: Eighteen Remain as the First Two Competitors are Eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance Canada

The first two dancers of the season have been eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance Canada, leaving 18 competitors in the running next week for the chance to become Canada’s favourite dancer. The results were revealed live during tonight’s broadcast by host Leah Miller after the three couples with the lowest number of votes were pulled to centre stage.

Production news: CTV Orders New Comedy Pilot Dan for Mayor

While politicians are stumping for votes across the country, CTV has thrown its support behind a new mayor. CTV announced today it has commissioned a new scripted, half-hour comedy pilot, Dan For Mayor, starring Corner Gas co-star Fred Ewanuick. This is the second comedy pilot ordered in as many weeks, following last week's announcement that CTV has commissioned a pilot for Brent Butt's latest project, Hiccups. Dan For Mayor is created by three of Canada's most respected comedy writers and producers - Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Paul Mather (Corner Gas, Rick Mercer Report) and Kevin White (Corner Gas, This Hour Has 22 Minutes). The pilot for Dan for Mayor is slated to begin production outside Toronto on October 20.

New Programs: CTV Orders New Comedy Pilot From Brent Butt

With production just wrapped on the sixth and final season of Corner Gas (premiering Oct. 13), CTV and The Comedy Network announced today that it has commissioned a pilot for a new scripted half-hour original comedy series from Brent Butt. The star, creator and executive producer of Canada’s No. 1 comedy series, Butt moves behind-the-scenes to helm his latest project, Hiccups, which begins shooting in Vancouver later this month. The pilot episode stars the hilarious Nancy Robertson, who plays Wanda Dollard on Corner Gas.

Ratings: Fringe Gains Momentum on ‘A’

Abrams scored 808,000 viewers last night, up double digits in all three key demos since last week and besting Global’s 90210 among A25-54 in both Toronto and Vancouver. Since delivering the largest audience for a new series premiere this fall, Fringe continues to gain momentum, cementing the exciting – and darkly humorous – series as appointment television for Canadian viewers. Fringe is the #1 new series on ‘A’ and the second most-watched series overall on the hot new network following Two and a Half Men.
