Astral’s The Movie Network and CBS Studios International, which distributes Showtime programming globally, today announced that they have renewed and expanded upon their long-standing relationship with a new multi-year deal that will have Showtime’s acclaimed lineup of original dramas, comedies and documentaries – including upcoming seasons of Californication, DexterTM and United States of TaraTM and new series such as Episodes – available to subscribers of The Movie Network on-air, on-demand and online.

Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) announced that eight Canadian original projects have been greenlit for production. Showcasing some of this country’s best talent both in front of and behind the camera, titles include: new seasons of the comedy series Call Me Fitz, Less Than Kind and Living In Your Car; the six-part stand-up comedy series Just For Laughs: Funny As Hell (working title); Skins, a new Canadian content series based on the popular UK version; the mockumentary series The Yard; and original films Sleepyhead and Scaredycat.

On February 28, Movie Central premieres Atom Egoyan’s Adoration, made with support from the Corus Made with Pay Fund. Also premiering this month action-star Vin Diesel returns to his career-making role in Fast & Furious on February 5 and the story of the "demi-gods of Canadian metal” is told in the award-winning documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil on February 7.

Astral Media’s The Movie Network today announced the launch of two additional high-definition channels – MExcess HD and MFun! HD – available free of charge to subscribers of The Movie Network. Launching today, the two new 24-hour dedicated HD channels join The Movie Network’s host of premium offerings that consist of five uncut and commercial-free multiplex channels including HBO Canada, two existing HD channels, The Movie Network OnDemand and TMN OnLine.

| Production news: CALL ME FITZ Starts Production |

E1 Entertainment, Amaze Film + Television and Big Motion Pictures in association with Astral Media’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central announced today that principal photography is underway on the Canadian original television series Call Me Fitz (working title). The series stars actor/director Jason Priestley (The Day of the Triffids, My Name is Earl, Beverly Hills 90210) as the charismatic used car salesman known as Fitz. Created and written by producer/writer Sheri Elwood (Defying Gravity), the 13‐part, half‐hour comedy series is filming an hour outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley region until mid‐January. The series is scheduled to air on The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Movie Central (Western Canada) in 2010.
