Ratings: CBC Trumps Global With Primetime Share of 7.8

With the great success of The Border, the most-watched Canadian drama, the highest ratings ever for Rick Mercer Report, and strong showings from several new series, CBC Television increased its prime-time share (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.) to 7.8 for weeks six through 32 (October 1, 2007 to April 6, 2008), surpassing Global for the first time since 1995.

Programming Highlights: CBC News to air more stories from Alberta

CBC News today announced it will dramatically increase resources devoted to covering local and national news in Alberta generally and Calgary and Edmonton in particular.

Moving to fulfill a commitment to local newsgathering announced nationally last year, CBC News will be doubling the number of newsgathering resources in Alberta by adding approximately 25 new assignments for television journalists based in Calgary and Edmonton to focus on local and national stories originating in Alberta.

General News: CBC Television Announces Returning Shows for 2008-2009

CBC Television broke viewership records with its 2007-2008 programming lineup. Our season-to-date prime-time share is 7.9, the highest in six years. In addition, Canadian content on the network has increased significantly over the last two years, with drama series increasing 68 per cent and comedy series up 41 per cent. This incredible success heralds the return of several new hit shows from this past season and returning favourites.
