General News: Flashpoint now ready for international distribution

Flashpoint first aired on CTv and was also picked up by CBS. this was the first time since Due South that a show produced in Canada (by Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment) and is now ready for International distribution. Alchemy and Tele Munchen will handle the international distribution of this program.

General News: Canadian Television Fund Adds $12M to Production Funding

The Canadian Television Fund (CTF) today announced that an additional $12 million in funding has been made available for productions applying for funding during the 2008-2009 fiscal year. This additional investment in Canadian production is a result of final calculations of 2007-2008 project commitments at the close of the fiscal year on March 31, 2008.

Featuring hundreds of artists from all genres of music, ON RECORD: THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES is slated to air nationally as a primetime series in the Fall of 2010 on PBS; Sir George Martin, legendary producer of the Beatles, will host. Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey will narrate.

The celebration of outstanding achievement in Canadian television began with ET Canada at The Gemini Awards on Global Television, which was followed by the 22nd Annual Gala Awards on CBC Television. This was the second gala held outside of Toronto (the first was held in Vancouver in 2006).

More than 8 in 10 Canadians surveyed oppose mandatory inclusion of five proposed new channels in their digital basic cable service while showing strong support for the option to pick and pay for channels they watch. The channels are currently seeking licences from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

General News: Producers win; Court upholds need for arbitration

The Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) is pleased with the Ontario Superior Court decision in favour of the producer's request for the appointment of an arbitrator. The CFTPA asked the Court to appoint an Arbitrator compelling ACTRA to abide by the Negotiating Protocol contained in the Independent Production Agreement (IPA). This decision preserves the Agreement that has served both parties for over 40 years.
