New Channels: Quebecor Media invests in New English Canadian TV News Channel : Hard News/Straight Talk SUN TV NEWS to challenge media establishment

Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor Inc., Quebecor Media Inc. and Sun Media Corporation, today announced that Quebecor Media, through a partnership between its two subsidiaries TVA Group and Sun Media Corporation, will be challenging the English Canadian TV news establishment by investing in a new hard news/straight talk English specialty channel called SUN TV NEWS.
Note: For those wondering where all the old programming is going to go, it appears that Channel Zero has grabbed the rights to those shows so they can air them on CHCH and CJNT. Also, you can join the discussion about this new channel on this thread

Fall Highlights: SunTV Unveils its 2009 Fall Schedule

Continuing with the successes of the past year, SUN TV is happy to bring back many of your favorite shows as well as some fresh and exciting new titles for the coming season. Our returning shows include; “60 Minutes”, “48 Hours Mystery”, “Boston Legal”, “Funniest Pets and People”, “Forensic Factor”, “World’s Most Amazing Videos”, “Smallville”, “Supernatural”, and “George Lopez”.

New to SUN TV’s prime time this fall are “20/20” Fridays at 10pm, and “The Insider” six nights a week at 7pm. Late night on SUN TV sees “Jimmy Kimmel Live” weeknights at midnight.

SUN TV kicks off its second season on September 4th with a powerful schedule that features returning local productions, six U.S. prime time simulcast programs and two English language Telenovelas (short form drama’s) produced for MyNetwork TV. This, combined with expanded coverage in London, Ottawa and Kitchener, positions SUN TV as a growing Ontario broadcaster.

New Channels: Reminder: SUN-TV begins today

This is just a reminder that starting today, Toronto 1 will be known as SUN-TV. Personally, I hope it is true what they have been promising. For the last few weeks, Toronto 1 has been running ads showing "New shows, new look, beginning August 29". And now, as I was just watching Celebrity Justice on Toronto 1, the ad appeared saying "New shows, new look, begins tomorrow". I am not sure at what time this is to happen, but it will definitely be tomorrow. And hopefully - the new shows will be good ones.

The changes at Toronto 1 have already begun. On Thursday, June 30, 2005, Toronto 1's current affairs program Toronto Tonight officially went off the air. Local show, The Source, is expected to leave the airwaves next. But more changes are coming to this Toronto station.
