Toronto 1 to broadcast the Budweiser Boxing Series

TORONTO 1 is pleased to be joining TVA in the broadcast of the Budweiser Boxing Series presented by Le Casino De Montreal and Le Casino De Lac Leamy.  The series will begin to air Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 4:00PM till 6:00PM ET. 


Produced by Groupe Yvon Michel, the series will air 12 events from September 2005 through to June 2006.  Each event will showcase professional boxers from around the world, including Toronto’s very own Victor Lupo, Claudio Rasco and Troy Ross.

Each event is expected to be packed with punches as TORONTO 1 viewers will be treated to two hours of exhilarating matches.  Since the series launched in September 2004, it has been well received by boxing enthusiasts and has grown in popularity. 

Don Gaudet, General Manager of Programming for TORONTO 1 states: “We are pleased to bring this high calibre boxing to the viewers in Toronto.  As part of our new mandate of being the GTA’s sports and entertainment destination, these events will help us build o­n that commitment.  With the popularity of boxing o­n the rise in Canada, I have no doubt that this
programming will be well received by our viewers and advertisers.”

TORONTO 1 is owned and operated by TVA Group Inc. (TSX:TVA.b), operator of the largest French-language general-interest television network in Québec and a number of specialty channels, and 25 per cent owned by Sun Media Corporation, Canada’s largest national chain of tabloids and community newspapers.

Groupe Yvon Michel is o­ne of the most well-known boxing promoters in Canadian history.  Founded in July of 2004, their mission is to popularize the sport of professional boxing by presenting the viewers with a taste of what Canadian boxers have to offer.
