According to Bex New Comedy (North American Premiere) Thurs. at 9pm ET beginning Dec. 1 Bex Atwell (Jessica Stevenson) is a young secretary who’s stuck in a world of “almost” – almost in a relationship; almost up for a good job; almost petite. Her boss, Charles, doesn’t know the meaning of boundaries; her boyfriend, Ryan, is worried that she’s trying to “corral his seed”; and her womanizing father, Jack, has turned laddish behaviour into an art form. Bex tries to figure out what the male species is all about – and why women even give a toss – but it seems the more she learns about men and relationships, the more infuriating they become!
The Catherine Tate Show New Comedy (Canadian Premiere) Thurs. at 9pm ET beginning Oct. 20 This hilarious self-titled sketch show from the Perrier-nominated comedian is a menagerie of instantly recognizable characters, from the Hollywood actress with an over-enthusiastic penchant for botox to the screaming housewife who hollers every time her toast jumps from the toaster. Characters from everyday life are parodied to the extreme as the talented actress morphs through ages, accents and wigs. The critics are hailing Tate as the most exciting female comic performer around.
The Kumars at No. 42 New Comedy (Canadian Premiere) Tues. at 9pm ET beginning Oct. 11 The Kumars – a typical (albeit exaggerated) Indian family living in London – have hit upon a unique method of “keeping up with the Joneses”: they have bulldozed their backyard and erected a state-of-the-art TV studio, where they host their own chat show. The son, Sanjeev, pops the questions while his mother Madhuri, his father Ashwin, and his mischievous granny Sushila sit and interrupt from a nearby sofa. The guests include a number of prominent British celebrities – Richard E. Grant, Michael Parkinson, Graham Norton, and Minnie Driver among them – all sportingly accepting the gentle ridiculing. Winner of the 2005 George Foster Peabody Award.
Ideal New Comedy (North American Premiere) Thurs. at 10:20pm ET beginning Sep. 15 Moz (Johnny Vegas) has been dealing drugs for over twenty years from his small flat in Manchester which he shares with his girlfriend, Nicki (Nicola Reynold). But despite his chosen profession, Moz is a man of principles – he deals only in the best quality of marijuana and nothing else. He is providing a crucial service to the local community, which pretty much extends as far as his closest friends: Kuldip, an Asian DJ and police constable who is also Moz’s chief cannabis supplier; Jane, the babysitter from hell; Brian, a lout who seems to have a new boyfriend every week and a man who always wears a cartoon mask, simply known as “Cartoon Head”.

Conviction New Drama (North American Premiere) Wed. at 10pm ET beginning Dec. 7 A racy and innovative new drama, Conviction turns the police genre inside-out by exploring the notion that everyone has the ability to kill. Their sister, Beth (Zoë Henry), is the single-minded lawyer representing the prime suspect. Lenny (David Warner), their father, is a retired police officer who berates the political correctness of his sons’ modern methods. Absolute Power Returning Series (North American Premiere) Tues. at 9:40pm ET beginning Nov. 22 Returning for a second season, Absolute Power exposes the dark side of PR.
