Neil Young to Close Show at Canada's Live 8 Concert Programming Highlights / CTV Posted by RAD on Jun 28, 2005 - 09:41 AM Organizers for Canada's Live 8 concert today announced the addition of international rock-and-roll icon Neil Young to the impressive line-up of over 20 world-renowned acts performing at Park Place (formerly Molson Park) on Saturday, July 2nd from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Fisk University Jubilee Choir will accompany Young's grand finale, which promises to be a spectacular ending to one of the most ambitious live music events to be produced in Canada. The Canadian concert, along with 9 concerts happening concurrently around the world, is a call for justice for Africa and the world's poor. The goal of the international events is to eliminate the debts owed to the world's richest countries by the world's poorest countries. Entertaining audiences for more than four decades, Young's involvement with some of music's most influential bands, including Buffalo Springfield, Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young has paved the way for other rock legends such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Tagged the "godfather of grunge", Young has made use of more than his musical talents as a director of three movies, the owner of Vapor Records and as one of the founders of Farm Aid, to which he remains on their board of directors. The three-time JUNO Award winner and member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; in 1995 as a solo artist and again in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield. CTV is the official broadcaster of Live 8 Canada. In what is shaping up to be an historic, all-day, rock and roll television event, CTV plans to broadcast 22 hours of Live 8 coverage, including segments from additional Live 8 concerts around the world. CTV's broadcast begins live at 1 a.m. ET on July 2 with the first note from the first Live 8 concert in Tokyo and continuing with coverage from Johannesburg, Berlin, London, Rome, Paris and Philadelphia. At 11 a.m. ET, CTV will begin broadcasting Live 8 Canada live from Barrie, Ontario. At approximately 8 p.m. ET following the conclusion of Live 8 Canada, CTV will air a "Greatest Hits" recap with highlights from the most memorable performances of the day from around the world. Live 8 is part of a day of action across the world, which kick-starts The Long Walk to Justice that calls on the leaders of the world's richest countries to act when they meet in Gleneagles, Scotland, July 6-8.
