On Monday, April 11, Life Network heads behind the scenes of the infamous fashion industry in Project Runway, the first-ever reality series focusing on fashion designers. Eager to give aspiring designers a chance to break into the notoriously difficult-to-crack fashion world, supermodel Heidi Klum heads up a team of judges and industry mentors as they attempt to discover the fashion design industry’s next big talent. The 12-part series will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT beginning April 11 on Life Network.
"Our contestants are so talented and this show will give them a chance to make it in fashion, which is a really tough business to break into," says Heidi Klum. "I'm excited to give them a great showcase to display their talents. I'm really excited for people to see the show — our contestants are fabulous, and of course, this is fashion — there's a lot of angst and drama!"
In each episode, one of twelve amateur designers will face elimination as they compete in different challenges designed to exhibit their talents and impress not only Heidi Klum, but top designer Michael Kors and Elle Magazine fashion director Nina Garcia. Guest judges will join the team on a weekly basis. From designing glamorous outfits out of supermarket purchases to wedding dresses, sophisticated swimwear and re-vamped postal uniforms, contestants will have to display innovation and motivation if they expect to make it to the next round. Once the pool of budding designers has been reduced to three, the contestants will take the competition to the catwalk as they each debut full lines during New York’s 2005 Fall Fashion Week. The winning designer will have their designs photographed for Elle, receive $100,000 to help launch their own clothing line and secure a mentorship from the Banana Republic Design Team.
“The chance to showcase a collection on the runways of New York City would be a dream come true for any aspiring designer. That opportunity, coupled with the chance to be mentored by industry luminaries, makes this series a surefire hit,” says Vanessa Case, Vice President of Programming, Life Network and National Geographic Channel. “Not only will our viewers get a rare glimpse into the seemingly glamorous life of fashion designers and supermodels, but they will be truly inspired by what these contestants are able to create when faced with elimination or being the last designer standing.”
Project Runway currently airs in the U.S. on Bravo.
