Talking about an idiotic decision:Shaw Cable introduced its subscribers to FOX News a while ago, to much fanfare. Now, however, channel 142 is dead. No more FOX News. Shaw Cable explained to me that they had removed it, because they were not quite sure how to package and market it. Come again?
I think this is a pretty flimsy excuse, because they don't seem to have this problem with any of their other digital channels. Could it be that the Liberals in Ottawa are interfering yet again, because they still have not gotten over the fact that the CRTC green-lighted FOX News for Canada?
Shaw Cable also told me that subscribers would have to subscribe to a package of 5 specific channels to get FOX News, but even that package deal is not available at this time until further notice
This sort of defeats the purpose of digital TV, doesn't it? When digital TV was first launched across Canada, one of the biggest benefits touted was that subscribers would be able to pick and choose any channels they wanted, without having to select entire packages, as had been the case with analogue cable.
So, why ruin one of the best selling points for digital TV by forcing that "you have to subscribe to an entire package" nonsense on consumers again
For the record, the Shaw agent I spoke to told me that she herself disagreed with that decision and that she had sent a memo to the powers that be to this effect.
