CH Television will devote one full day's news programming on Tuesday, Jan. 11, beginning at 6 a.m. to raise money for tsunami relief efforts. The CH Tsunami Relief Drive will begin with CH Morning Live and wrap up with a special edition of CH News at Eleven with Nick Dixon.

CH Television has partnered with the Red Cross to conduct this one-day relief drive to help maximize the contributions of this generous community. January 11, the day of the drive, is the last day that the Canadian government will match donations.

“The Red Cross relies on public and corporate donations to provide assistance during and following a disaster," said Diana Borowski, fund development director for the Canadian Red Cross in Ontario. "The outpouring of generosity and compassion being shown by individuals and organizations like CH Television is extraordinary. This money will help Red Cross provide relief items such as clean drinking water, shelter and medicine to those who so desperately need it, as well as support long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction."

The CH Tsunami Relief Drive will begin with CH Morning Live co-hosts Bob Cowan and Annette Hamm. CH Morning Live will continue to provide vital news, weather and traffic information each half hour while the rest of the program will be devoted to raising money for tsunami relief efforts. The fundraising effort continues during CH News at Noon with Connie Smith and Matt Hayes; CH Live @ 12:30 with Mark Hebscher and Donna Skelly; CH Talk Live at 1 p.m. with Bill Kelly; BEAT Line at 4 p.m. with Adele Newton and CH News at Six with Dan McLean. The drive will peak with a special edition of CH News at Eleven with Nick Dixon, who will be joined by the entire CH News team including Dan McLean, Connie Smith, Donna Skelly, Bill Kelly, Ken Welch, Steve Ruddick and Maria Hayes.

CH News correspondents will be live at the Red Cross Centre in Hamilton, at Hamilton City Hall, as well as at news bureaus in Halton, Niagara, and Queen's Park. Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci, Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale, Burlington Mayor Rob MacIsaac and Hamilton Mayor Larry Di Ianni will be making special appearances throughout the day offering their support and encouraging each community to take part in this day-long drive for tsunami relief contributions.

Representatives from local school boards and police departments will support the CH Tsunami Relief Drive by making financial contributions. In addition, various local businesses, entertainers, political representatives, sports and community groups will also be on hand to assist with the fundraising efforts.

Staff and volunteers from the Hamilton Chapter of the Canadian Red Cross and McMaster University will be operating the call centre phone banks, which have been donated by McMaster University.
