Starting Jan.17, George Stroumboulopoulos brings his cut-to-the-chase attitude to CBC’s coverage of daily events. Challenging, engaging and intelligent, CBC NEWS: THE HOUR will cover everything from Canadian politics to international headlines, as well as the latest from the world of entertainment. THE HOUR will air live, Monday through Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, on CBC Newsworld.
Stroumboulopoulos will explore the day’s stories through his unique perspective. THE HOUR will offer a variety of viewpoints: Stroumboulopoulos will talk to guests from across the country and around the world, video journalists will report from the field, and regular contributors will add their voices to the conversation.
“George Stroumboulopoulos is a unique personality with a bold, authentic voice,” says Heaton Dyer, director of programming for CBC Newsworld. “When we were thinking about who we wanted as host for the new show, he was at the top of our wish list and we’re very excited at the thought of what he’ll bring to both The Hour and Newsworld.”
A pop culture icon in his own right, Stroumboulopoulos’s ability to cut through the crap gained him legions of fans during his time on The New Music, at MuchMusic and on radio stations 102.1 The Edge and The Fan 590. Most recently, Stroumboulopoulos connected with millions of Canadians when he presented the argument for winning candidate Tommy Douglas on CBC’s The Greatest Canadian.
