Tweens, Teens and the Extreme Dominate the HGTV Dial this January Programming Highlights / HGTV Posted by RAD on Dec 07, 2004 - 09:15 AM Two new Canadian design series, the family friendly Rooms That Rock and the designer carte blanche series Love It or Lose It, will have their broadcast premieres on HGTV in January. Rooms That Rock, hosted by Sara Cauchon with designers Andrew Pike (Design Rivals) and Cheryl Torrenueva (Superstar Challenge 2003), premieres on Mon., Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT and Love It or Lose It, hosted by Tamara Taggart, premieres on Tues., Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. "Rooms That Rock and Love It or Lose It add a distinctive dimension to HGTV's winter schedule," says Vanessa Case, Vice President, Programming, HGTV. "Both Canadian series offer audiences a new stable of design advice from a variety of genres that will no doubt inspire hibernating viewers during the winter months and throughout the year." The energetic Sara Cauchon hosts Rooms That Rock, the new series that puts kids in the driver's seat of design. In each episode, the 'swat' design team, comprised of Andrew Pike and Cheryl Torrenueva, arrives in the Designmobile and pitches resident teens or tweens two wildly different solutions for the same design dilemma. The kids then make the final decision, but parents get to weigh in and veto one selection, such as the paint colour, fabric or piece of furniture. Rooms That Rock airs new episodes every week on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Beauty lies firmly in the eye of the beholder in Love It or Lose It, an extreme series that plays Russian Roulette with a loaded designer. In each episode, a homeowner is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a professional designer redesign their space. Sounds great - but there is a catch. One in a group of six rotating extreme professional designers, including a Designer Gothic, Designer Retro, Designer India, Designer Country, Designer Modern or Designer Asia, is chosen at random to decorate the space with no regard for the homeowner's tastes. If the owner loves it upon the final reveal, they keep everything. If they decide to lose it, the crew reverts the designer's masterpiece back to its original state. Love It or Lose It airs new episodes every week on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Episodic Synopsis: * Rooms That Rock Episode 1 - "Hoop Dreams" - Mon., Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Two brothers who share a love of basketball get an all-star RTR makeover that includes a plexiglass room divider, storage lockers and a rolling tray table that doubles as a desk. * Rooms That Rock Episode 2 - "Calm and Collected" - Mon., Jan. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT When 11-year-old Kennedy tells her mother she wants to redecorate their living and dining room areas in either a Japanese rock garden theme or a twenties Chicago flapper stylization, her mom anxiously awaits the outcome. * Love It or Lose It Episode 1 - "Split Decision" - Tues., Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Doug and Liz are trapped in a 1970's vintage country-colonial living room in desperate need of an overhaul.
