Created in 1988, planete is the first French-language station fully dedicated to documentaries. With its generalist and trans-generational
approach, planete looks at topics as varied as history, current events, sports and culture. With its main focus on quality, planete also invests in the co-production of documentary movies, and is an active participant in the renewal of a genre that was long neglected. This ambitious editorial approach helped planete become a favourite in six European countries and win a number of
awards including the 7 d'Or (1999) for best cable or satellite channel. Well-deserved public and professional recognition for a channel whose only mission is to prove that "truth is stronger than fiction." http://www. planete.com [3]

Claude Sauvé, Vidéotron's Senior Marketing Director (cable distribution), is proud that these new channels are now available here, after successful negotiations. Not only will they enrich programming with original French-language content, but they will also help "illico" digital services continue their penetration of markets served by Vidéotron.
For her part, COGECO Communications and Programming Vice-President Hélène Dubuc explained that the number of customers switching from analog service to COGECO's digital service continues to grow and feels confident that the introduction of new, attractive French-language channels available with cable's digital TV will contribute to the steadily expanding customer base.
With the advent of EuroNews, Paris Première, planete, Radio France Internationale and RFI Musique, Vidéotron's and COGECO's programming grids now number 21 French-language specialty services. The FIVE NEW CHANNELS, which can
be tuned in respectively on positions 170, 171, 172, 551 and 552 with Vidéotron and 200, 201, 202, 980 and 981 with COGECO WILL BE AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE to digital TV customers FOR THREE MONTHS, i.e. until September 19.
