APTN News Contact Goes Worldwide

The new season of APTN National News: Contact starts on October 1, 2004. For the first time in APTN¹s history, the national call-in show will launch with a worldwide broadcast on the Internet via streaming audio at www.aptn.ca/news [1].

With Contact being available to an even larger audience, new ideas and perspectives will be brought to the discussion table,² says Rita Deverell, Director of News and Current Affairs. ³Always mindful of our mandate to share the stories of Aboriginal Peoples, the APTN National News Team is proud to be able to bring these stories to people not only in Canada, but worldwide,² she adds.

Hosted by seasoned journalist, Rick Harp, Contact is a current events program that examines issues of the day from Aboriginal perspectives. This season, Contact tackles hot topics like same sex marriages in Aboriginal communities and the misuse of cultural ceremonies on reality TV.

"I am really looking forward to having calls and e-mails come in from people in the US and around the world,² says Contact Host Rick Harp. ³This is truly a historic moment for us.

APTN National News: Contact has been on the air since March 2000 and is broadcast live from the APTN National News Headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Contact airs every Friday at 8pm ET.

September 1, 2004 marked the five-year anniversary of the
launch of the first national Aboriginal television network in the world with programming by, for and about Aboriginal Peoples to share with all Canadians as well as viewers around the world. APTN is a mandatory service available in over 9 million Canadian households with basic cable, direct-to-home (DTH) or wireless service, including ExpressVu, Star Choice and Look TV. APTN broadcasts programming with 60% offered in English, 15% in French and 25% in Aboriginal languages.
