Star Choice Communications Inc. announced [this week] the expansion and enhancement of its channel line-up.

This was made possible by the successful launch of Canada’s most powerful satellite, Anik F2, on July 17th. Now hovering 37,000 kilometers above the Earth, Anik F2 will offer Star Choice customers an expanded selection of new programming services in both standard and HDTV formats.

Today’s announcement demonstrates Star Choice’s commitment to offer the best programming available, at the best price. Earlier this year, Star Choice offered more pick n’ pay options to address customers’ desires for greater choice.

“Customers expect more flexibility in choosing the channels they want,” says Michael Abram, President of Star Choice. “We’re creating packages and offers that meet customers’ expectations,” he added.

Coming This Fall
This latest expansion, includes as many as 18 new exciting channels such as Fine Living – the ultimate resource to help people live like they mean it; MCTV – great local programming for areas including northern Ontario; and CBC Winnipeg
as well as the CBC Northern service. In addition, three new high definition channels will be added, increasing the HD sports, movies, news, and network content available on Star Choice. With a total of nine high definition channels, Star Choice is becoming a leader in delivering 100 per cent digital video and audio programming to its customers.
Quebec has always been recognized by Star Choice as a key market and has strong customer support province wide. Several weeks ago, Star Choice launched the “Tout En Francais” package, one of the best value packages in the French market. For $29.99 per month, customers get all of the French “Essentiels” services plus exciting channels including Canal Vie, LCN, Historia,
Teletoon, Musimax and MusiquePlus among many others.

As part of the 18 new channels launching with Anik F2, Star Choice will also add several new networks to the French channel line-up, including SRC Edmonton, Sherbrooke TVA, and Sherbrooke TQS. “Quebec is a very important market,” says Abram. “The addition of new channels and the launch of a new value package, makes us the better choice in the province.”

“In February, we launched 15 new channels that expanded our time shifting capabilities across all five time zones in Canada,” says Abram.

“Customers want to watch what they want, when they want it. Time shifting means customers
never miss their favorite network shows again.”

And if better programming wasn’t enough, Star Choice is also launching new digital receivers. The new receivers will provide a more economical entry point for new customers and will enable existing customers to expand Star Choice services in their homes. With more than one TV in the home, Star Choice customers will soon be able to see even more value with multiple receivers.
Finally, Star Choice’s much-anticipated digital video recorder (DVR) will also be launching this Fall. Combined with high-definition quality, this new receiver will be able to record, pause and rewind live TV. The dual turner receiver also enables customers to watch one channel while recording another. Star Choice will be leading the industry with this new technology -- it will revolutionize television viewing.

“Since customers will have an improved selection of programming and the ability to schedule the recording of any program they want, customer will ALWAYS have excellent programs to watch, when they want,” says Abram. “We will never
look at our TVs the same way again.”
