SERIES PREMIERES
SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND
In 73 BC Rome, torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are entertainment. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man or a gladiator. He must become a legend.
The classic tale of the Republic's most infamous rebel comes alive in the graphic and visceral new original series from Starz. In the first episode a soldier in the Roman Auxiliary leads his fellow warriors against a corrupt Roman Legate. His wife and him are separated and taken prisoner and as punishment the soldier is sentenced to die in the gladiator arena. But after surviving a fight against numerous appointments, his sentence is commuted and he is sold as a slave to be trained as a gladiator. His new owners dub him Spartacus. The series cast includes Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) and John Hannah (The Mummy trilogy). Spartacus: Blood and Sand premieres Monday, January 25 at 8 p.m. PT on Movie Central and 9 p.m. ET on The Movie Network.
A sneak peek of Spartacus: Blood and Sand episode 1 will be available January 12 on Movie Central On Demand and at www.moviecentral.ca/video/default.aspx.
LA LA LAND
Award-winning British comedy sensation Marc Wootton stars in the new Showtime series La La Land, the new six-episode, half-hour series about three wannabes struggling to find fame and fortune in Los Angeles. He plays “Brendan Allen,” a talentless documentary filmmaker on a quest to become the next Morgan Spurlock; “Shirley Ghostman,” a medium willing to lie, cheat and even drug his way to becoming America's next psychic superstar; and “Gary Garner,” an East-London taxi driver using the inheritance from his late porn-star mother to forge a career as an action star like his hero Jason Statham.
La La Land is a hybrid of documentary and comedy – Marc plays fictitious characters but everybody else in the show, including his accomplices such as Kiki (Brendan’s assistant), Chico (Gary’s driver) and Ruta (Gary’s mentor), are completely real and utterly unaware they are talking to an actor.La La Land premieres Monday, January 25 at 10 p.m. PT on Movie Central and 11 p.m. ET on The Movie Network.
