Cogeco Cable today announced it has signed a video-on-demand supply agreement with MGM Home Entertainment that makes available new and classic titles from the MGM library, the world's largest modern collection of films.
"We're extremely pleased to add a major Hollywood player to our roster of VOD programming suppliers," said Ron Perrotta, Cogeco's Vice President, Marketing and Sales.
MGM will supply Cogeco Cable with an impressive array of new releases -- including Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Agent Cody Banks and Jeepers Creepers 2 - along with hits such as Get Shorty and The Terminator from its massive catalogue.
Cogeco's digital-cable subscribers are rapidly adopting its VOD offerings. Launched in November 2002, VOD is deployed to 85% of households overall, 92% in Ontario and 71% in Quebec.
The VOD service is available to all Cogeco Digital Cable TV subscribers. There are no monthly fees; customers are only charged for the movies they watch. And rain or shine, there's no tape to return to the video store movie, and no late fee to pay. Customers simply use their remote control to bring up the movie in a secure format on their TV screen, where it remains accessible for 24 hours. The system provides all the functions of a videocassette recorder, with start, stop, pause, rewind and fast-forward capabilities. Prices vary from 99 cents for children's content to $5.49 for new releases.
"VOD is fast becoming the home-entertainment solution," said Mr. Perrotta. "This type of VOD service can only be provided through cable's bi-directional interactive network and consequently is not available by satellite."
