Canadians can once again do the “Time Warp” this Halloween as CTV resurrects the ultimate rock musical creep spectacle, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, on Saturday, October 31 at 9 p.m. ET (check CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Digitally remastered and in high-definition, fans of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW can see this 1975 classic on TV like never before – and continue the tradition of hosting theme parties at home - dressing up as their favourite character, participating in the dialogue, throwing toilet paper, rice and toast in the air, and of course, singing and dancing along to songs such as “Time Warp”! CTV’s Halloween night double feature continues 12:05 a.m. ET with the film THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES.
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975) is a film phenomenon based on the 1973 stage musical by Richard O'Brien. Borrowing largely from cinema's horror conventions, the film begins as an innocent young couple, Brad (Barry Bostwick, SPIN CITY) and Janet (Susan Sarandon, Stepmom) is stranded at the home of a mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, (Tim Curry, Annie) who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, the leather jacket and fishnet stocking clad Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The outstanding costuming and makeup, the acting by a group of relative unknowns (at the time) and the memorable songs ("Time Warp", "Sweet Transvestite") helped make THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW one of the most bizarrely entertaining and satisfying musicals ever made. Although the original 1975 release was considered a failure, the movie eventually became a cult hit when special midnight showings prompted fans to act rowdy by shouting lines and throwing props at the screen. These screenings spawned a 30 year tradition that escalated to theatre-organized screenings and parties in homes on Halloween night.
In THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, Washington Post journalist John Klein (Richard Gere, Nights in Rodanthe) is distraught by the sudden, tragic death of his wife (Debra Messing, WILL & GRACE) and finds himself mysteriously drawn to a small West Virginia town. He soon learns that many of the town's residents have been beset by bizarre events, including sightings of an eerie "moth-like" entity, similar to the one seen by his late wife. Investigating further, he becomes obsessed with the idea that this supernatural being can predict impending calamities.
