After an exciting finale, broadcast live from Canada’s Wonderland last night, Corus Entertainment’s YTV congratulates 14 year-old Dunnery Bond from Nova Scotia, who takes the title of The Next Star. With over 350,000 votes cast via online voting and text message, host Adamo Ruggiero announced the winner. Over half a million viewers tuned in for the finale.
As the winner, Dunnery will record his single, I Dare You To Shine, with Universal Music Canada to be released on YTV’s Big Fun Party Mix 10. He will also film a professional music video and receive personal guidance from music industry hit-makers. All six finalists will have a song included on The Next Star CD, scheduled to be released in October.
Last night’s live programming event featured performances by the six finalists, who sang the single they wrote during the series, alongside headline performances by Universal Music acts Faber Drive and series mentor Suzie McNeil.
Throughout the summer, The Next Star was the most-watched Canadian show on YTV, with over one million viewers tuning in to watch the show each week.
Dunnery wowed audiences all season long with his great sense of humour and openness for trying new things. With constant feedback from the judges, he always took it all in stride. From the moment he showed up for the tryouts playing the piano, Dunnery has shown that he’s very focused and is always prepared for his performance.
The final episode will repeat on Wednesday, October 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 12 at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET/PT.
