GolTV, Canada’s only 24-hour sports channel dedicated to soccer, will kick off its fourth consecutive season of exclusive La Liga coverage this weekend with four live games highlighted by a doubleheader on Sunday, August 31 featuring FC Barcelona versus Numancia at 1:00 p.m. ET followed by defending champion Real Madrid versus Deportivo at 3:00 p.m. ET. GolTV’s 2008-09 La Liga coverage begins on Saturday, August 30 with a live doubleheader featuring Espanyol versus Valladolid at 2:00 p.m. ET and Valencia versus Mallorca at 4:00 p.m. ET.
“Real Madrid and Barcelona are two of the most popular clubs in the world and we’re thrilled to be the exclusive Canadian home of this top flight action,” said Corey Russell, Vice President Programming and Production for GolTV. “Last year, GolTV aired more than 100 La Liga contests and we look forward to providing Canada’s soccer fans with more great action this season.”
Each week throughout the 2008-09 La Liga season, GolTV will air a variety of matches featuring some of the world’s top players, including Lionel Messi, Iker Casillas, Thierry Henry and Deportivo’s Player of the Year, Canadian international Julian De Guzman. Fans of Spain’s premier soccer league can also tune in every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET beginning September 1 to catch Ole, La Liga, a GolTV series featuring highlights and analysis of La Liga soccer action.
Apart from La Liga, GolTV also airs exclusive coverage of Germany’s Bundesliga as well as action from the professional leagues in Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador. During the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup, GolTV has exclusive coverage of qualifying matches for the Italian and German national teams as well as extensive coverage of qualifying matches from the South American region.
