Astral Media’s Family Channel has further established itself as the destination for kids, as nearly 420,0001 viewers, aged 8-14, tuned in for the June 20 broadcast of the Jonas Brothers blockbuster Camp Rock. With a 47 per cent share of viewing2, the broadcast of this Disney Channel original movie is now the highest-rated program for this demographic in the last five years, for both specialty and conventional television, surpassing last summer’s record set by the Family Channel broadcast of High School Musical 2.

Overall, nearly 850,0003 P2+ tuned in, making it the second-highest non-sports broadcast among specialty broadcasters in Canada in the last five years, bested only by High School Musical 2. The Camp Rock ratings reinforce Family Channel’s ranking as the number one pay and specialty channel in Canada since the start of this broadcast season4.

“Camp Rock is the latest in what is becoming an enduring and highly successful legacy for Disney, with hits such as the High School Musical franchise and Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert 3D film setting the bar for highly entertaining and audience-grabbing event programming,” said Kevin Wright, Senior Vice President, Programming, Family Channel. “Camp Rock has exceeded expectations and we’re delighted that Family Channel can leverage these programming events to build a robust and diversified schedule that keeps Canadian kids and their families on the edge of their seats with ‘Never a Dull Moment’ experiences such as Camp Rock and other not-to-be-missed programs throughout the summer.”

Camp Rock was the first up for Family Channel’s Family Jams, a summer-long celebration of music centred on major television events including day-and-date premieres with Disney Channel broadcasts in the U.S. of Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert 3D on July 26 and The Cheetah Girls: One World on August 22. In addition, the five-part mini-series Disney Channel Games starts on August 1.

Fans of Camp Rock can return to camp on July 4 at 7:30 pm ET/PT with Camp Rock: Rock Along. This version of the film cues audiences to sing and dance along, and airs the same evening the Jonas Brothers kick off their North American Burning Up tour at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre.
