Super Channel is pleased to host the world premiere of Sordid Lives: The Series, a black comedy about white trash.
Created by Del Shores the series brings together a unique ensemble cast: Olivia Newton-John, Beth Grant, Rue McClanahan, Canadian Caroline Rhea, Leslie Jordan and Bonnie Bedelia.
Based on the quirky stage-play of the same name, Sordid Lives: The Series is the story of a small town Texas family presided over by Peggy, a good Christian woman, who begins a secret affair with a married man as she takes in the town bar singer who has just been released from prison. Peggy’s wild child daughter LaVonda lives with Peggy’s chain-smoking sister, while Peggy’s good girl Latrelle hides a growing pill problem.
Her third child “Brother Boy” Ingram is locked in a mental institution where he performs as Tammy Wynette and plots to escape while attending therapy sessions with a crazy doctor who believes she can dehomosexualize him.
The off-beat and edgy 12 x 22’ series, which begins airing on SC3 July 1, is produced by Once Upon A Time Films and Scout Productions and is offered on Super Channel as part of its agreement with IMG Entertainment to bring Canadians original television programming.
“Super Channel is always looking for unique programming to offer Canadian viewers and we are pleased to be able to present Sordid Lives: The Series,” said Sandy Perkins, Super Channel Vice President of Programming. “Our goal is to offer more to our subscribers – more programs that can’t be found anywhere else in Canada.”
On making the agreement, Mark Young, IMG Entertainment’s Senior Vice President, Entertainment Sales & Acquisitions Worldwide, said: “I am delighted that Super Channel has decided to show Sordid Lives: The Series. It comes with a stellar cast and guest cameos from a host of big-name celebrities, as well as hilarious writing by Del Shores. Given its high profile and cult following I have no doubt it will be a huge hit for them.”
