Canwest Announces Global Television, E! Primetime Schedules For 2008-2009 Season

Kathy Dore, President, Canwest Broadcasting, along with Barbara Williams, Executive Vice President, Content, announced today the highly-anticipated 2008-2009 Primetime Schedules for the Global Television and E! networks. Direct from Toronto's historic Elgin Theatre, over 1500 advertisers, industry and press gathered earlier this morning to celebrate Canada's most talked-about fall lineups.

“We’re committed to providing the best in television entertainment, and this year proves no exception. With the amazing array of new and returning primetime offerings scheduled across Global and E!, we’ll engage viewers and advertisers with top notch programming while leveraging opportunities across multimedia platforms,” said Dore. “Our team has delivered yet again and we look forward to presenting a strong launch and enduring new season.”

The 13 NEW series added to the Global and E! lineups feature fall’s most buzz-worthy candidates, rich with high-calibre talent on both sides of the camera. These series complement a host of returning fan favourites including HEROES, THE OFFICE, THE BIGGEST LOSER, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, SURVIVOR as well as the top rated hit, HOUSE.

Adding to the excitement is the acquisition of broadband rights across a variety of programming inclusive of new fare such as 90210,KNIGHT RIDER and MY OWN WORST ENEMY, and returning hit series HEROES, HOUSEand THE OFFICE.

“This is our breakthrough year for digital media,” said Williams. “Canwest was the first to stream US primetime programming online in Canada and continues to pioneer this area with the support of our valued partners at NBC, CBS and Sony. With 17 titles cleared for online, the volume of programming we are offering our viewers is creative, robust and certainly not the end of a trend.”

Global Schedule:

New series on Global include the fresh, new spin on television’s favourite zip code, 90210, starring Canadian Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Rob Estes (Melrose Place); the spy thriller MY OWN WORST ENEMY starring Christian Slater (Bobby, Pump Up the Volume) and Saffron Burrows (Boston Legal); a remake of the award-winning BBC series LIFE ON MARS with Jason O’Mara (The Agency); and the futuristic action drama DOLLHOUSE headlined by Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling). A romantic mission ensues on THE EX-LIST starring Elizabeth Reaser (Grey’s Anatomy); and hilarious new sitcom KATH & KIM with Selma Blair (Hellboy) playing alongside Saturday Night alumna Molly Shannon. For its daytime viewers, THE DOCTORS features a dream team of five practicing medical professionals and is hosted by ER Doctor (and former star of The Bachelor) Travis Stork.

Key returning 2008 Canadian highlights include the #1 new drama series* THE GUARD; and #1 new Canadian comedy series ’DA KINK IN MY HAIR.*

Global’s fall schedule also boasts the 8th season of the award-winning national newscast, GLOBAL NATIONAL, with Anchor Kevin Newman; and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA (#1 Canadian Entertainment News Program*) heads into another season, celebrating its 4th year of leading coverage on entertainment news with Cheryl Hickey, Rick Campanelli and the ET Canada Senior Reporting team.

E! Schedule:

The new fall slate includes the return of the iconic 198Os television classic KNIGHT RIDER with rising star Justin Bruening as Mike Tracer and Hollywood elite Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT; the hot new comedy set against a chic workplace setting DO NOT DISTURB starring Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan) with special guest star Robert Wagner (Two and a Half Men); and one man’s desperate bid to win over his new, unsuspecting in-laws in WORST WEEK starring Kyle Bornheimer (Jericho) and Erinn Hayes (Kitchen Confidential).

Returning series include SNOOP DOGG’S FATHER HOOD, KIMORA: LIFE IN THE FAB LANE, DR. 90210 and SUNSET TAN, while E! NEWS WEEKEND with Arisa Cox and Jason Ruta charges full steam ahead to its sophomore year with even more glam and fun for the savvy viewers.
