How does a home – on the real-estate market for months – suddenly sell for $100,000 over the asking price? The answer is home staging, the art of neutralizing a home with upscale furniture and art to create a showroom perfect space that sends homebuyers scrambling to bid top dollar. For the first time, HGTV’s new series “The Stagers” exposes the high-pressure world of home staging, going behind-the-scenes at DEKORA, Canada’s leading home staging company. A Paperny Films production, “The Stagers” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/7 and 11 p.m. PT beginning July 1 on HGTV Canada.
Please see at the end of this article for a video preview of the show.
““The Stagers blends entertainment, real estate and design into one hot new HGTV series,”” says Cal Shumiatcher, executive producer, Paperny Films. “We’ve had so much fun producing the series that we can’t wait to let audiences experience it for themselves.”
In each episode of “The Stagers” (13 x 30’), the main stager – either the high-drama Matthew Finlason or the head-butting mother-daughter duo Maureen Powers and Bridget Savereux – have five days or less to transform a home from dated to designer on a tight budget. Once assigned a home by DEKORA, the stager meets with the client, creates a design plan, sources furniture and artwork, and then assemble the new look before the homeowner’s first showing. The goal in each episode is to sell a home as fast – and for as much money – as possible. A rotating cast of staging assistants helps each main stager achieve their vision.
* Episode 1: A Whole New World
Tues., July 1 at 10 p.m. ET
A house full of 70's furniture is in serious need of an update if it wants to sell fast and for maximum money. Maverick stager Matthew Finlason is certain he has the perfect solution – even if it does include knocking out a window. However, does he have the guts to break ranks with the senior stager to achieve his plan?
* Episode 2: The Fox and the Hound
Tues., July 8 at 10 p.m. ET
Stager Matthew Finlason has only five days and a limited budget of $10,000 to stage his most ambitious project yet – a massive 8,000 square-foot mansion. The owner, a British house-flipping maverick, has royal expectations and a penchant for second-guessing other people’s work.
The series will also air on HGTV US beginning Tues., July 22 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
