CBC announced this week that its new digital channel documentary—formerly The Documentary Channel—has secured an exclusive deal to air a Sundance Channel branded block of programming which will expose Canadian audiences to the world-renowned brand and the programming associated with it. Canada’s new home for provocative and entertaining documentary programming will feature films and series produced by the U.S network as well as titles from other sources that share Sundance Channel’s spirit and vision.

Under the creative direction of Robert Redford, Sundance Channel has established itself as the premier destination for bold, uncompromising and irreverent films, many of which are screened at the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival.

“We’re delighted to have forged this relationship with Sundance Channel and are excited to bring Canadian viewers some of the best documentaries from around the world,” said Kirstine Layfield, CBC executive director of network programming.

“It is an honour to be in this collaboration with the CBC and by association, with the people of Canada,” commented Sundance founder Robert Redford. “We are very pleased to contribute strong independent documentary programming to this exciting audience, and to be a part of the Canadian television landscape.”

“Sundance Channel is flattered and honoured to be asked to contribute a block of programming to CBC’s new channel documentary,” said Larry Aidem, president and CEO, Sundance Channel. “We broadcast many documentaries from up North and are delighted to return the favour.”
