In her first lead role in a television series, Glenn Close stars as a charismatic but cunning litigator in Damages. At last night’s Golden Globe® Awards, Close was named Best Actress for her portrayal of the sinister Patty Hewes. This simmering character-driven one-hour drama series intersects high-stakes litigation, an intricately plotted murder mystery, and the personal lives of those involved. Showcase is planning a promotional push in order to launch the critically acclaimed legal thriller in style. The twist-filled series will premiere on Showcase on February 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. When Damages premiered on FX on July 24, it ranked as the #1 program of the night on basic cable.
Damages is like the best kind of edge-of-your-seat movie thriller – its twists and breakneck pace immediately hook you and hold your attention for 13 suspenseful episodes. Glenn Close is brilliant and terrifying as Patty Hewes. The creators have seamlessly constructed an unpredictable and unstable world that will keep viewers guessing – not knowing which characters to trust and who to root for,” says Tara Ellis, VP of Content, Showcase.
Showcase.ca will also be streaming Damages online. Beginning February 19, episodes will appear online the day after their broadcast on the network and will remain online for a week.
Ted Danson and Rose Byrne received Golden Globe® nominations for their duplicitous roles in Damages. Tate Donovan, Željko Ivanek and Noah Bean also star in this adrenaline-fuelled series from creators and executive producers Todd A. Kessler (The Sopranos), Daniel Zelman (Fool’s Gold), and Glenn Kessler (Robbery Homicide Division). Damages was nominated for a Golden Globe® for Best Dramatic Series.
In the series’ ominous opening, Ellen Parsons (Byrne), bloodied and terrified, lands herself in a police interrogation room. Flashing back six months earlier, we meet Parsons as an ambitious novice lawyer who accepts a position at a leading Manhattan law firm, Hewes & Associates. Parsons’ new boss and mentor, power attorney Patty Hewes (Close), is launching a high-profile battle against corporate titan Arthur Frobisher (Danson). Hewes is determined to destroy the billionaire CEO with a class action civil suit. As Ellen is absorbed into the intense, rapid-fire machinations of the trial, she realizes her mentor may be more adversary than ally as developments play out that ensnare Ellen’s fiancée (Noah Bean). Everyone is a pawn in this dangerous winner-take-all game of intimidation where lives – as well as fortunes – could be destroyed at any moment.
