The Blue Jays are back on CBC! CBC Sports today announced a two-year broadcast agreement for the rights to a broadcast package of eight Toronto Blue Jays regular season games in the 2007 season and up to 30 regular season games in 2008.
“We’re proud to announce that the Toronto Blue Jays are back on CBC,” said Scott Moore, executive director, CBC Sports. “Blue Jays baseball is a natural big league addition to a world-class CBC line-up this summer that includes Major League Soccer and our comprehensive FIFA coverage, including the FIFA U-20 World Cup taking place across Canada. This agreement brings the excitement of Blue Jays Baseball back to CBC Television for Canadians across the country to enjoy.”
“We are very excited to have CBC returning as a television broadcaster for Toronto Blue Jays games. Our organizations have a long history together dating back to 1977 when the CBC was our original broadcaster. The real winner in this deal will be our fans who will now have access to 144 Blue Jays television broadcasts this season,” said Toronto Blue Jays President and CEO, Paul Godfrey.
CBC steps to the plate on Saturday, June 23 at 1 p.m. ET for the first game of its 2007 broadcast schedule, featuring the Blue Jays hosting the Colorado Rockies in interleague play at Rogers Centre. The action continues on Sunday, June 24 at 1 p.m. ET as CBC brings Canadian baseball fans the third game of the three-game series between the Jays and the Rockies. CBC’s Jim Hughson will call the play-by-play. A 5-time Gemini Award winner and play-play by announcer for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, fans will be familiar with Hughson’s previous work calling Blue Jays baseball, including the 1992 and 1993 Division Championship series.
Other highlights of CBC’s schedule include a triple serving of Blue Jays Baseball during the Civic Holiday Weekend in August, as the Texas Rangers take on the Jays in Toronto on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. ET and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. ET. Capping off the holiday weekend in perfect style is a must-see match-up on Monday, Aug. 6 featuring the Blue Jays taking on the legendary New York Yankees at 1 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.
CBC wraps up its broadcast schedule during Labour Day Weekend, featuring the final two games of the three game series between Toronto and Seattle on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. ET and Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. ET. (Please see full broadcast schedule below).
