Astral Media's The Movie Network today announced that MMore HD will launch on February 1, 2007. MMore HD is a 24-hour dedicated high-definition channel featuring selected HD movies and programs from The Movie Network's multiplex channels MMore, MExcess, MFun! and MFest.

"The Movie Network was the first to offer Canadians high-definition programming and we are building on the strength position that early entry afforded us by launching multiple services that enable HD subscribers to a broad range of titles, schedules and genres," said Domenic Vivolo, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Astral Television Networks. "HD is an absolute priority for us. In fact, Astral Media has made an unparalleled commitment to HD and we can proudly claim that we have more HD channels and, justifiably, more HD content than any other broadcaster in Canada."

From HBO and Showtime series to Hollywood-hit movies and The Movie Network's original drama programs, MMore HD offers subscribers additional choice and further access to premium programming in HD, all uncut and commercial free. The service will also present action movies from MExcess, comedies from MFun! and independent and foreign cinema from MFest. In the month of February, MMore HD's slate of programming will include: Final Destination 3, Lucky Number Slevin, Crash, A History of Violence, Munich, Good Night And Good Luck, Brokeback Mountain, Capote as well as HBO series Rome (Season 2), HBO original movie Longford and Showtime original series' Dexter and Sleeper Cell 2: American Terror.

MMore HD joins The Movie Network as its third dedicated 24-hour HD channel, following The Movie Network HD and Mpix HD. The Movie Network HD launched in May 2005 and simulcasts all programming from The Movie Network's main channel; while Mpix HD, introduced in January 2006, consists of classic movies five years or older in HD. Beginning in 2001, The Movie Network was the first broadcaster to provide regularly scheduled programming in HD and Dolby Digital 5.1. surround sound. Astral Media, with The Movie Network's three HD channels and seven French-language HD pay and specialty channels, offers the most HD channels in Canada.

Rogers Cable will launch MMore HD on February 1 in Ontario and will be available on channel 536 with plans to roll out to other areas of eastern Canada in the coming months.
