Hockey stirs Canadian passion and pride like no other sport. It’s Canada’s favourite pastime. And NHL Network is the place to be with a broadcast schedule exclusively devoted to the great frozen game.
Live NHL games, theme programming and new player profiles/interviews underline a solid, ‘round-the-clock hockey lineup for NHL Network’s 2006/07 broadcast campaign.
NHL Network is home to everything hockey with a 24-hour hockey roster featuring live games from the NHL, NCAA and ECHL, along with hockey news/updates, extended highlights, player profiles and interviews, vintage hockey, international hockey and amateur hockey.
Live NHL Hockey
This coming season, NHL Network will provide viewers with more than 40 live NHL games, including an anticipated ‘Game-of-the-Week’ special showcasing match-ups between U.S. rivals. The extensive 2006/07 live NHL schedule comes on the heels of the network’s most aggressive live NHL game package in 2005/06, which featured 41 combined pre-season, regular season and playoff games.
NHL On The Fly
As the network’s signature show, NHL On The Fly airs live nightly at 9 p.m. ET during the NHL season, giving hockey fans live look-ins to NHL games, every night, all across the league. Hosted by Dan Pollard and Todd Lewis, NHL On The Fly features extended highlights, interviews, pre- and post-game reports, news conferences and expert analysis from hockey veterans such as Gary Green, Dave Reid, Bill Berg and Kay Whitmore. NHL On The Fly also serves as ‘The Home of the Shootout’, giving viewers a look at every shot from every shootout that occurs during the NHL season.
NHL On The Fly: Final
NHL On The Fly: Final, airing daily at 1 a.m. ET following NHL On The Fly and from 5 a.m. to 12 noon ET, delivers a final round-up of the night’s action from around the NHL and a Top 5 Plays of the Night segment. NHL On The Fly: Final is the quintessential wrap-up show for the hockey world, and was televised worldwide during the 2005/06 season through program license agreements with OLN (U.S.), NASN (Europe) and other international NHL rights holders.
NHL On The Fly: Special Presentations
In celebration of major events/games on the NHL calendar, NHL Network provides in-depth NHL regular season and playoff previews, extensive coverage of the NHL All-Star Game, a comprehensive mid-season review, coverage of the NHL Trade Deadline and NHL Entry Draft, as well as breaking news from across the league.
Rbk Hockey’s Greatest Goal
For the second consecutive season, NHL Network teams up with Reebok (Rbk) to recognize the most exciting goals from professional and amateur hockey with Rbk Hockey’s Greatest Goal – an interactive online promotion that gives Canadian hockey fans the chance to choose their favourite goals. The two-month promotion gets underway shortly following the 2006/07 regular season and culminates with a TV special on NHL Network entitled Rbk Hockey’s Greatest Goal (date and time TBA). The program counts down the year’s best goals from the season as compiled by NHL Network’s team of experts and previously showcased in its monthly Top 10 program. The top goal from each month during the NHL regular season will be posted on www.rbkgreatestgoal.ca. Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite goal, and the goal with the most votes will also be presented as the ‘Viewer’s Choice’ Rbk Hockey’s Greatest Goal during the show. The promotion also features a video submission contest, inviting Canadian amateur hockey players the opportunity to showcase their own ‘highlight-reel’ goal footage as captured on amateur video.
Top 10 Goals and Saves of the Month
On the 10th day of every month, NHL Network counts down the previous month’s ‘best-in-class’ goals and saves from around the NHL. Candidates primarily include goals and saves previously showcased during NHL On The Fly: Final’s Top 5 Plays of the Night. The series, sponsored by Rbk, airs each month at 6 p.m. ET, with the season premiere scheduled for November 10.
NHL ‘All Access’ Programming
NHL Network’s ‘All Access’ programming, provided by NHL Productions, takes viewers behind the scenes of the NHL with an all-access pass to exclusive game coverage, player interviews and footage. New productions for fall 2006 include an inside look at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, the Stanley Cup’s summer travels with members of the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship team, and a ‘year-of-the-rookies’ show that takes viewers inside the life of young NHL sensations Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Dion Phaneuf and Henrik Lundqvist. Dates and times TBA.
Relive the Magic
NHL Network invites viewers to relive some of the greatest games in Stanley Cup history with the ongoing series Relive the Magic. Provided by NHL Productions, each 60-minute episode includes commentary from both an NHL legend that played in the featured game and an NHL fan that was in attendance. Upcoming episodes include the Colorado Avalanche, featuring Ray Bourque winning the Stanley Cup in 2001 after an emotional departure from the Boston Bruins. Dates and times TBA.
Frozen In Time
Now in its sophomore season, Frozen In Time looks back at some of hockey’s most memorable on- and off-ice moments, such as Wayne Gretzky’s trade to Los Angeles, the building of the Oilers’ dynasty, and the Broadstreet Bullies of the 70s. The series airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
Classic NHL Playoff Series
Packed with punch, these NHL Network exclusive presentations summarize an entire NHL Stanley Cup Playoff series – up to seven games – in one 60-minute show. Classic Series airs daily at 5 p.m. ET.
Top 10
A staple of NHL Network’s broadcast schedule, Top 10 counts down a list of 10 NHL milestones or accomplishments. The 30-minute show airs nightly at 6 p.m. ET. Examples include Top 10 All-Star Performances, Top 10 Montreal Canadiens of All Time, and Top 10 NHL Records.
