YTV is pleased to announce that the International Emmy winner – Dark Oracle – returns to the YTV schedule with a new season, Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT. Recently recognized with an International Emmy for Best Children and Young People program for its first season, audiences will now be treated to 13 new episodes of this YTV Original series. Produced by Shaftesbury Films (ReGenesis), Dark Oracle uniquely combines both live action and animation for an exciting and distinctive look.
“YTV is thrilled to be airing a second season of Dark Oracle. From its premiere in 2004, Dark Oracle has been popular with our Canadian viewers as well as with our viewers worldwide – as proven with winning an International Emmy this past year,” said Bonita Siegel, Director Original Productions, Corus Children’s Television. “We have high hopes for the second season and are positive that it will be just as successful as the first.”
With audiences left wondering at the end of the first season whether Dark Oracle was in fact vanquished, it quickly becomes evident that the comic book is back. Without warning, mysterious events are set in motion and a brand new issue of Dark Oracle enters Cally and Lance’s lives. Once again, the comic book begins to predict and manipulate their existence. But this time around, their comic book counterparts, Violet and Blaze, become bolder and resolve to free themselves from their comic world and cross boundaries to the real world.
Created by Jana Sinyor (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Sesame Park) and Writer/Executive Producer Heather Conkie (Mrs. Ashboro’s Cat, The Zack Files), the second season of Dark Oracle features 13 half-hour episodes produced by Shaftesbury Films (ReGenesis) in association with YTV and the financial participation by the Shaw Rocket Fund, Canadian Television Fund - Equity and Licence Fee Programs. World distribution by Cookie Jar.
“Shaftesbury is extremely pleased that YTV recognizes the potential for this unique series and enthusiastically embraces the award-winning series.” said Shaftesbury Chairman and Executive Producer, Christina Jennings.
In the premiere episode, The Boiler Room, the Dark Oracle comic returns with a vengeance. When Dizzy gets entangled with the bizarre initiation rights of Vern’s new fraternity of darkness, he and Lance are forced to contend with a series of terrifying events that the comic predicts.
Premiering in its regular timeslot Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m., Dark Oracle features returning characters from season one, Cally (Paula Brancati: Radio Free Roscoe, Blobheads) and her fraternal twin Lance (Alex House: The Zack Files, Degrassi:The Next Generation) as well as childhood friend Dizzy (Jonathan Malen: Real Adventures, Screech Owls) and Lance’s comic-book store girlfriend Sage (Danielle Miller: Childstar). In Season two necromancer wannabe Vern (David Rendall: Radio Free Roscoe) looms larger than in season one and Emmett (Nathan Stephenson: Radio Free Roscoe) a new boyfriend for Cally, is introduced.
