Toronto 1 unveils fall 2005 programming highlights

Toronto 1 starts the fall off with six new, independent productions that will reflect the Greater Toronto Area and the diverse lifestyle, culture and sports scenes of our city. In addition Toronto 1 will offer viewers a unique slate of programming that will engage and connect with the city’s contemporary households.

We believe that television should be fun to watch and that’s exactly what we are providing viewers with this fall,” said Don Gaudet, General Manager, Programming, TORONTO 1. “From “Inside Jam!” our new daily entertainment magazine show to the first two seasons of 24, to shows like Charmed and, the popular Girlfriends, all will air exclusively o­n TORONTO 1, our programs will provide entertainment our viewers can indulge in.

We are particularly excited about our renewed commitment to showcase independent productions. TORONTO 1 counts six new productions in its fall line-up of original programming. As the season progresses watch for more local and independent productions to be added to our program schedule.”

Original Programming

Inside Jam (Weekdays at 7:00 PM) is our daily entertainment show committed to shining the spotlight o­n Toronto. Slick, smart and funny, catch Inside Jam for a full hour of the best in entertainment news coverage.

The Grill Room (Monday to Friday at 10:30 PM) Get in o­n the nightly action at The Grill Room, our round table sports talk show. Sports stars and personalities trade views and opinions with sports writers and critics debating the day’s hot sports topics that everyone is talking about.

Street Eats (Saturday at 1:00 PM) Toronto and the GTA offer an abundance of diverse neighborhoods, each with their own cuisine. Street Eats mission is to make sense of it all by focusing o­n the ethnic food specialties the city’s neighborhoods have to offer. Viewers can satisfy their exotic food cravings without ever having to leave the city. They’ll learn what different neighbourhoods are famous for, where to shop for the ingredients and how they can prepare the dish o­n their own.

Intimate Yoga – (Monday to Friday at 6:00 AM) Combining yoga with life coaching, guru and actress Sonia Dillon brings the secrets of this ancient tradition to the contemporary challenges of urban life. Start your day with Intimate Yoga, a TORONTO 1 exclusive.

Echo – (Saturday at 1:30 PM) Showcasing the strides, achievements and lifestyles of successful, second and third generation South Asian, Asian and Black Torontonians, Echo is a diverse half hour feel-good program that provides a mainstream platform for Canadians who have excelled in their respected fields.

TORONTO 1’s new fall schedule includes six key acquisitions:

24 – (Sundays 8:00 and 9:00 PM) Exclusive to TORONTO 1 we’ve got the first two seasons of the hit concept drama 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, head of an elite team of CIA agents. Catch up o­n the first two seasons as Jack uncovers an assassination plot targeting Presidential nominee, David Palmer.

Charmed
– (Fridays 9:00 PM) Explore the relationship between three very different sisters complicated by the discovery of supernatural powers that each possesses and the consequences they share by keeping this family secret away from outsiders.

George Lopez - (Wednesdays 8:00 PM -Simulcast) This hilarious family comedy stars popular stand-up comedian George Lopez as a guy whose life has become much more complicated, since he became the first assembly line worker to be promoted to plant manager at a Los Angeles airplane parts factory.

Freddie – (Wednesdays 8:30 PM Simulcast) A new sitcom inspired by the real life of its star Freddie Prinze, Jr., Freddie is a young, successful chef with his own restaurant and a stylish bachelor pad who quickly realizes that bachelorhood isn't working out exactly as he envisioned.

Girlfriends – (Weekdays 6:00 PM, with new episodes airing Fridays 10:00 PM) A half-hour comedy series that invites viewers into the lives of four professional African-American women living in Los Angeles and struggling with the weighty issues of life, men, love, money, and more men. This is another first exclusively o­n TORONTO 1.

The Jerry Springer Show
– (Weekdays at Midnight) The talk show host of TV’s original reality show has always had a definite flair for the dramatic. The Jerry Springer Show premiered in September 1991 and fourteen years later still entertains with funny, informative, outrageous and outlandish guests.

For a dose of reality, TORONTO 1 has also acquired these new programs:

Kathy Griffin’s My Life o­n the D-List – (Wednesday at 9:00 PM) A no-holds-barred look at celebrity culture and the things about Hollywood everyone knows, but no o­ne has the guts to say.

Cold Turkey - (Sunday at 10:00 PM) Follow the exploits of ten unsuspecting chain smokers! Originally told they were going to join the cast of an outrageous reality show, there is no turning back when they discover that their actual task is to quit smoking "cold turkey", sequestered in a house for 24 days.

Look for these returning favourites this fall:

60 Minutes – (Sundays 7:00 PM Simulcast) The most successful broadcast in television history, this CBS news magazine provides a blend of hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news.

Prime Ticket Movie – (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 PM) For the 2005-2006 season our stellar movie library brings more new and exciting titles to Prime Ticket Movie including All the Right Moves, Bullworth, The Fabulous Baker Boys, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Soul Food, Something About Mary, and more.
