The Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) is pleased with today's decision by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regarding voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services. The decision takes a consistent and pro-competitive approach to the regulation of telephone services, regardless of the underlying technology.

| General News: Canadian Communications Policy should Reflect Digital Revolution and Consumer Demand |

The Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) calls on the federal government to encourage investment, innovation and risk-taking in Canadian communications policy in its annual report, On Demand. In the past year, the cable industry launched digital phone services, provided high-speed internet access to almost 3 million Canadian homes and offered more choice to digital television subscribers, including more high-definition television, thirteen additional third-language specialty channels, eight Canadian digital specialty services and popular US services such as Fox News and the NFL Channel.
