| Programming Highlights: Degrassi: The Next Generation Wins Prestigious Television Critics Association Award |

- only Second Time in History that Canadian Program Takes Home the Prize -
CTV’s Degrassi: The Next Generation bested four American series to win “Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming” at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday. The original CTV production beat out fellow nominees SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora The Explorer, Nick News and Postcards From Buster and marks only the second time that a non-American series has ever won an award in this category - the other being Degrassi Junior High in 1988.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

-- TSN and NHL Network to televise live coverage of 2005 NHL Entry Draft, July 30 --
With the NHL lockout officially behind them, TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie and NHL experts Pierre McGuire and Gord Miller were on-site in New York today to weigh in on the 2005 NHL Entry Draft Order of Selection. It was a day that saw the Pittsburgh Penguins receive the number one pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and the future of Canadian hockey phenom Sidney Crosby all but decided. The day's events lead in to TSN's live coverage of the highly anticipated 2005 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday, July 30 at 12 noon ET. McKenzie, McGuire and Miller will be in Ottawa to cover this year's Draft. NHL Network will simulcast TSN's coverage of the Draft.

CHUM Television's local stations The New VR (Barrie/Toronto), The New RO (Ottawa/Pembroke), The New PL (London), The New WI (Windsor), The New NX (Wingham) and BC station The New VI (Victoria/Vancouver) will be renamed A-Channels, effective Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005.

Seventeen-year-old high school student Emily Vinette is the first Top 10 competitor to be eliminated from Canadian Idol, it was revealed live on CTV tonight. Vinette received the least amount of votes following Tuesday's patriotic Canadian Idol performance episode, broadcast live in front of a raucous, sold-out audience at Toronto's John Bassett Theatre. In all, 2.4 million votes were tallied following the show, the most so far this season. Vinette leaves behind nine finalists to compete for the Canadian Idol crown.
