The C.R.T.C. has issued new broadcast licenses for the following potential new specialty channels. TELETOON Rétro, TELETOON Retro, Vista The Virtual Window, D.I.Y. Television, The Cricket Channel, The PRIVATE Channel, PURE PLAY Clips Channel, Girls TV, ZTV, Discovery HD Theatre, Humour and Télé-Services.

Sports Programming: Three year broadcast rights for curling on both CBC and TSN

CBC Television and TSN have both signed three-years deals with the Canadian Curling Association. Under these new deals, TSN will televise afternoon and evening draws for the first seven of nine days (Saturday through Friday) from the Scott Tournament of Hearts, Tim Hortons Brier, and the Ford World Curling Championships held in Canada. As for the CBC, CBC Sports will show the championship weekends of the Scott Tournament of Hearts, the Tim Horton's Brier and the Tim Horton's Curling Trials (Olympics), as well as the Ford World Championships* which, this year, are the Women's World Championships in Canada*plus the Junior National Championships, The Strauss Canada Cup, and the final weekend of the Ford World Men's Championships from Lowell, Mass.

Home Improvement Shows Help Push Renovations Over Budget

Home renovation and decorating shows are pushing some Canadians to opt for the "reno" of their dreams instead of a project more in line with their financial reality. According to a survey conducted for BMO Bank of Montreal, home renovation and improvement shows have motivated 29 per cent of Canadian homeowners to renovate.

Production news: CTV Orders Second Season of Robson Arms

CTV has ordered a second season of its original series Robson Arms from Vancouver-based Omni Film Productions. A total of 13 new episodes will head into production early next year for broadcast on CTV and The Comedy Network in the 2006/07 broadcast year.

CTV announced today that Law & Order will return to it's schedule starting this friday, October 14th @ 9pm while an encore presentation of Law & Order: Criminal Intent will follow 10pm ET. As for Nip/Tuck & The Sopranos, they will move to Saturdays @ 9pm & 10pm ET respectively.

CBC employees have voted to accept their tentative deal with management, officially ending the labour dispute. The Canadian Media Guild said 3,514 ballots were cast and 88.4 per cent voted in favour of ratification.
