Sports Programming: TSN Acquires Rights to RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 and 2015

TSN announced today it has reached an exclusive, multimedia rights agreement with Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) for the upcoming RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 and RUGBY WORLD CUP 2015. The deal also includes French language rights for RDS. This marks the first time TSN has broadcast the Rugby World Cup since 1995.

The six-episode, unscripted series takes reality television to a whole new level by pitting high-level investigative professionals vs. everyday people vying to win a $100,000 prize. Production news: Production Begins on New CBC Series REDEMPTION INC.

Toronto-based Proper Television announced today that production has begun on the new CBC Television series, REDEMPTION INC. Hosted by multimillionaire businessman and Dragons’ Den star Kevin O’Leary, the series will be filmed throughout the Greater Toronto Area until September 2011. REDEMPTION INC. (8 x 60’) is produced by Proper Television for CBC Television and will premiere in Winter 2012.

Last night MuchMusic viewers laid claim to theDEGRASSI franchise as Season 11 of the recently Emmy®-nominated series was the #1 non-sports specialty program in Canada in the key P12-34 demo. Part One of the one-hour premiere drew 175,000 viewers P12-34, an 11% increase over last year’s premiere. More than half a million unique TV viewers (577,000) watched some portion of the two-part premiere. The debut marked the return of the successful telenovela format to Much, with new episodes airing Monday-Thursday at 9 p.m. ET, through to September 1 on Much, MuchHD, and MuchMusic.com.

The pilot is produced and written by the Gemini award-winning producing team Suzette Couture and Pierre Sarrazin (DOOMSTOWN, THE MAN WHO LOST HIMSELF). Production continues through July 26.
