General News: CRTC renews licence of The Weather Network/MétéoMédia until 2018

Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) renewed the broadcasting licence of The Weather Network and MétéoMédia until 2018. These services will continue to be offered to every television subscriber as long as conditions related to the creation of a national emergency alert system are met.

Ratings: "Storage Wars" Becomes Network's #1 Series Telecast of All Time

The season two premiere of A&E's hit real-life series "Storage Wars" set ratings records for the network with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, July 20 at 10:00PM and 10:30PM. The 10:30 episode became the network's most-watched telecast of all time among the key adults 18-49 and 25-54 demographics with 2.9 million viewers in each demo, as well as the most-watched series telecast of all time with 5.1 million total viewers. The full hour of back-to-back episodes became A&E's #1 season-opening performance for any series in the history of the network.

Production news: Food Network Canada and Force Four Entertainment Announce Start of Production for First Canadian Edition of Hit Culinary Competition Series

Shaw Media announced an agreement with Australia’s BrandNewMedia to produce the first Canadian edition of the internationally popular series, Family Cook Off, in partnership with Vancouver-based production company, Force Four Entertainment Inc.   In each episode, food meets Family Feud as two families of four compete head-to-head in a fast-paced, three-course cook-off to find out whose family fare is superior. Following the Top 20 Performance show, the votes were tallied and it was announced tonight on CTV that LAUREN Lyn (24), a Salsa dancer from Toronto, ON and RODRIGO Basurto (26), a Hip-Hop dancer from Toronto, ON would be saying goodbye to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. The results were revealed live during tonight’s broadcast after host Leah Miller revealed the three couples with the lowest number of votes. The 18 remaining dancers will take to the stage on Monday, July 25 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (go to ctv.ca to confirm local listings).
