| Production news: CTV Crosses THE BRIDGE: New Drama Series Joins CTV’s Original Production Slate |

CTV announced today the order of a new one-hour original Canadian drama series, THE BRIDGE. Based on the insights of veteran insider and outspoken former Toronto police union head Craig Bromell, CTV has ordered 11, one-hour episodes, following the production of a two-hour pilot shot in Toronto last summer. THE BRIDGE provides an unflinching look at the struggle street cops face as they not only battle criminals – but also their own bosses – in order to protect society and, ultimately, themselves.

The best of Canadian Lifestyle, Children's and Youth television were awarded tonight at the second of three Gemini Industry Awards galas. A total of 21 categories were awarded tonight at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto. This week's award shows will conclude with the Drama, Variety and Comedy Gala on Wednesday, October 22. The 23rd Annual Gemini Awards will culminate with the Broadcast Gala Awards November 28th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, which will be simulcast on E! network and Showcase at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Fresh TV Inc. and BLUEPRINT ENTERTAINMENT have teamed up to co-produce a new live-action series with animated elements about the hilarious ups and challenging downs of being a teenager. In Maya’s Opinion centers on the life of an overly-imaginative teenaged girl and is the first time Fresh TV and BLUEPRINT have collaborated. The show is currently in development with Corus Entertainment’s YTV.

Veronica Tennant’s latest dance documentary, Vida y Danza, Cuba ~ Life & Dance, traces the remarkable artistic journey of Cuban choreographer Lizt Alfonso, premiering October 26 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Bravo!. Alfonso is a household name in Cuba and her all-female company Danza Cuba plays to standing ovations in sold-out houses. Narrated by Colm Feore, Vida y Danza, Cuba ~ Life & Dance tracks Alfonso and her 25 dancers as they create Vida!, a fusion of flamenco, contemporary ballet, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Shot in Havana and Toronto, the documentary culminates with Danza Cuba’s performance during Luminato, Toronto Festival of Arts + Creativity.

If you’ve got a taste for terror, you have a “Harvest Dance” date with the Degrassi: TNG Halloween special, The Curse of Degrassi, premiering Sunday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Directed and written by original Degrassi cast member Stefan Brogren (“Snake”), the 30-minute episode gives a special nod to the classic horror movie Carrie. In what is becoming a regular Degrassi Halloween tradition, this season’s spooky special finds possessed students roaming the school as they prepare for the Degrassi Harvest Dance.
