General News: The 25th Annual Gemini Award Nominations Announced

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce the nominations for the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the year’s best in Canadian English-language television. This year’s celebrations will be held in Toronto over three nights in November. The Industry Gala Presentations will take place on Tuesday November 2nd and Wednesday November 3rd at the Kool Haus Entertainment Complex; the Broadcast Gala will take place on Saturday November 13th at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and will be broadcast live-to-tape on Global and Showcase.

Last Thursday’s episode of the hit series JERSEY SHORE attracted more viewers than ever, ranking the second largest audience for a single episode in MTV’s history, hitting a total audience of 486,000 and 362,000 in P12-34.* This season also hits fist pump worthy numbers online. Following last night’s announcement that Shelaina Anderson, 19, a Contemporary dancer from Edmonton, AB, suffered an injury during rehearsals and was unable to perform, it was revealed tonight that she has withdrawn from the competition and is therefore one of the eliminated competitors. Also eliminated tonight was her original partner HANI Abaza, 26, a Modern Contemporary dancer from Ottawa, who danced a Jazz number with last-minute substitute partner SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Season 2 winner, Tara-Jean Popowich.
