Production news: More money for film & tv productions in BC

The Government of British Columbia has increased its support for the film and television industry by improving the labour-based tax credits. Film Incentive British Columbia, for domestic productions, will increase from 20% to 30% and the British Columbia Production Services Tax Credit, for foreign location shooting, will increase from 11% to 18%. The existing digital animation or visual effects (DAVE), regional and training tax credits remain in effect.

Production news: CTV Announces Most Ambitious Canadian Idol Audition Tour Ever

CTV will canvas the country from coast-to-coast, visiting every single province and even one territory, in the search for Canada's next Canadian Idol, it was announced today. Producers have confirmed that the 2005 Canadian Idol Audition Tour has been expanded to an extensive 13-week cross-country trek to 13 cities - up from nine last year. The audition cities are (from West to East): WHITEHORSE, Vancouver, Calgary, SASKATOON, Winnipeg, SUDBURY, LONDON, Toronto, Montreal, MONCTON, CHARLOTTETOWN, SYDNEY and St. John's (cities in all-capitals represent new destinations).

Production news: Ontario's film and television production activity off to a good start in 2005

Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) reports that Ontario's film and television production slate looks promising as a number of new productions are choosing Ontario in 2005. Confirmed projects that are in prep for upcoming winter or spring shoots are three feature films, Paramount's Untitled 50 Cent Project, Don Carmody Production's Silent Hill and the previously announced Paramount feature Four Brothers. This is in addition to a number of continuing or returning series including the new GEP Productions series Kojak.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today released details of the incentive program it is adopting to increase the amount of original English-language Canadian television drama broadcast on Canadian television and to encourage greater viewing and higher expenditures on such programs.
