Posted on Wednesday, August 03, 2005 - 09:40 AM
G4/TechTV Canada

G4techTV Canada announced that G-Phoria - the mother of all videogame award shows - will air Tuesday, August 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, with the pre-show broadcast starting at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Hosted this year by avid gamer Wilmer Valderrama, best known as Fez on the hit series That 70s Show, G-Phoria is the original videogame award show that celebrates the year's hottest games, stars, music and trends that define the videogame lifestyle. Adding to the night's entertainment, Grammy Award winning hip-hop phenomenon The Black Eyed Peas and electro-rock sensation The Bravery will perform full sets. G-Unit's Tony Yayo will also be a featured performer.

G-Phoria will showcase a broad array of exclusive content from the most anticipated video games of the year. More than 1,000 celebrity and VIP guests are expected to turn out to play the year's hottest videogames and celebrate winners in categories ranging from favorite character to best voice performance. Over 25 new videogame titles will be playable to the public for the first time at the event, including a variety of games from Microsoft's next-generation console, Xbox 360(TM), launching this holiday season.

G-Phoria will feature the highly-anticipated world premiere trailer for Half-Life(R)2: Aftermath, Valve's new episode for its award-winning game Half-Life(R)2. In addition, celebrities and gamers will get a sneak peek and the first chance to sample a variety of games from Microsoft's next-generation console, Xbox 360(TM). SEGA's Full Auto(TM) and Condemned: Criminal Origins(TM), as well as EA's Need for Speed(TM) Most Wanted, are among the Xbox 360(TM) playable titles that will be on-hand.

Further highlights of other G-Phoria exclusives include the first look at Activision's True Crime(R): New York City trailer, along with new playable versions of upcoming blockbuster titles including Sony Computer Entertainment America's Shadow of Colossus(TM) and Ratchet: Deadlocked(TM) for PlayStation(R)2, RedOctane's Guitar Hero(TM), Konami's Castlevania(R): Curse of Darkness, and Capcom's Okami. Guests can also check out Nintendo's hotly- anticipated title Legend of Zelda(R): Twilight Princess.

Nominees for G-Phoria are chosen by a panel of videogame industry experts. All eligible games have release dates that fall between March 31, 2004 and April 30, 2005. Fans choose the G-Phoria winners by voting both online as well as by text message. To vote online and to see a complete list of all 2005 G-Phoria nominees, go to www.votegphoria.com.
