Posted on Tuesday, July 05, 2005 - 06:14 PM
NHL Network

NHL Network is home to everything hockey with a broadcast schedule exclusively devoted to the great frozen game. During the 2005/06 season, new series and theme programming underline a solid, ‘round-the-clock‘ broadcast roster that also features news, information, extended highlights as well as vintage hockey, international hockey, amateur hockey, player profiles, interview shows and youth-oriented programs.

NHL on The Fly
As the network’s signature show, NHL on The Fly airs live nightly during the NHL season, giving hockey fans live look-ins to NHL games, every night, all across the league.  Hosted by Dan Pollard and Todd Lewis, NHL on The Fly features extended highlights, interviews, pre- and post-game reports, news conferences and expert analysis from hockey veterans such as Gary Green, Dave Reid and Kay Whitmore.

NHL on The Fly: Final, a 60-minute program airing nightly following NHL on The Fly and also from 5 a.m. to 12 noon ET, delivers a final round-up of the night’s action from around the NHL.

Ultimate Moments
This September, NHL Network invites viewers to relive some of the greatest games in Stanley Cup history with the new series Ultimate Moments.  Produced by NHL Productions, each 60-minute episode includes commentary from both an NHL legend who played in the featured game and an NHL fan who was in attendance.  Dates and times TBA.

Frozen In Time
Debuting in October, Frozen In Time is a new series that looks back at some of hockey’s most memorable on- and off-ice moments.  Monthly shows such as ‘Frozen In Time: October’ highlight unforgettable hockey stories from that month in NHL history.  Other episodes focus on milestone events, such as Wayne Gretzky’s trade to Los Angeles, the building of the Oilers’ dynasty and the Broadstreet Bullies of the 70s.  Dates and times TBA.

Classic NHL Playoff Series
Packed with punch, these NHL Network exclusive presentations summarize an entire NHL Stanley Cup Playoff series – up to seven games – in one 60-minute show.  A special ‘Top 90 Playoff Series of the 90s’ debuts on Monday, July 4 at 11 p.m. ET and continues for 90 consecutive nights, wrapping up on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11 p.m. ET with the #1 Playoff Series of the 90s.

Vintage Games
From July through September, NHL Network takes fans back in time for vintage NHL hockey games each night of the week from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET.  Highlights include:

  • Cup Clinchers (July 4 to 24) - NHL Network presents 21 historic Stanley Cup-clinching games.  Highlights include the 40-year anniversary of the 1965 Montreal Canadiens victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, 30th anniversary of the 1975 Philadelphia Flyers’ last Cup win, 1984 Edmonton Oilers’ first Cup victory, and 1991/1992 back-to-back Cup victories by Mario Lemieux’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
  • Overtime Week (August 8 to 14) – Overtime Week features nail-biters from past Stanley Cup Playoff games, including the 25th anniversary of classic games featuring the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabers and Philadelphia Flyers.
  • 60s Week (September 5 to 11) – NHL Network digs deep within the vault for some of the oldest NHL hockey footage in existence, including Toronto’s 1962 Stanley Cup victory over the Stan Mikita-led Chicago Blackhawks.
  • All-Canadian Week (September 19 to 25) – An entire week of games devoted to great Canadian NHL rivalries of the 80s, including storied inter-provincial grudge matches Calgary vs. Edmonton and Montreal vs. Quebec.

NHL ‘All Access’ Programming
NHL Network’s ‘All Access’ programming, provided by NHL Productions, takes viewers behind the scenes of the NHL with an all-access pass to exclusive game coverage, player interviews and footage.  Dates and times TBA.

NHL Cool Shots Extended Play
Airing every Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET from May 2 through September 26, NHL Cool Shots Extended Play offers never-before-seen interview footage featuring some of hockey’s greatest leaders, legends and personalities such as Scotty Bowman, the most successful coach in NHL history with nine Stanley Cup wins.

Canadian Team Nights
From July through September, NHL Network will televise Canadian Team Nights each night of the week from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.   Each night features a different Canadian NHL team, including current (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa) and former (Quebec, Winnipeg) franchises.  Programming includes classic games, interview shows and special videos.

Top 10
A staple of NHL Network’s broadcast schedule, Top 10 counts down a list of 10 different NHL milestones or accomplishments each night at 6 p.m. ET.  Examples include Top 10 All-Star Performances, Top 10 Montreal Canadiens of All Time and Top 10 NHL Records.  Dates TBA.
