| Darkness Becomes Julia Davis in Nighty Night on BBC Canada |

BBC CANADA presents the Canadian television premiere of the critically- acclaimed series Nighty Night, a six-part dose of dark humor best described as Fatal Attraction set in English suburbia, about an unhinged beautician named Jill and her very unhealthy obsession with a handsome doctor, Don. Written and performed by the award-winning actress Julia Davis, Nighty Night introduces audiences to one of the most selfish and callous comic monsters in television history. Nighty Night premieres on Thurs., April 14 at 9:40 p.m. ET.

One of the surprise UK hits of 2004, Nighty Night is pitch black comedy that pokes fun at sensitive and normally taboo subjects. Meet Jill (Julia Davis), owner of a small-town beauty salon, whose reaction to the news that her husband has cancer is "Why me?" Pretending he is dead, she joins a dating agency and, when none of her dates come up to scratch, moves heaven and earth to seduce the doctor who has just moved into the house across the street. The fact that he has a wheelchair-bound wife with multiple sclerosis is no obstacle for the determined Jill.
Creator Julia Davis acknowledges that Jill is a cold, calculating monster and that Nighty Night makes jokes about delicate subjects such as cancer, but says: "If this was drama, no one would question it. So why not look at these things in comedy?"
Nighty Night is the latest addition to an award-winning, highly original list of projects that Julia Davis has been involved with as actor and writer. Her credits include Human Remains, which she co-wrote and starred in with Rob Brydon. The series won a Banff award and Julia won a RTS award for her performance. Other credits include Big Train and Brass Eye. Nighty Night won the 2004 British Comedy Awards for Best New TV Comedy of 2004.
