The recent phenomenal success of New York Times bestseller The Da Vinci Code has brought the mystery of the Holy Grail and early Catholicism into the spotlight. History Television strips away the layers of myth surrounding author Dan Brown's controversial claims in the North American premiere of The Real Da Vinci Code airing Wednesday, March 23 at 9 p.m. ET. This feature documentary was one of the highest-rated programs when it aired on Channel 4 in the UK.
"Dan Brown's book is a phenomenon - something that comes around once in a generation...a book that has captured the public's imagination and created discussion about some of the most fundamental beliefs of Western civilization. It is a subject we had to explore on History Television," says John Gill, Senior Vice President of Dramatic Programming.
In The Real Da Vinci Code, historian Tony Robinson sets out to discover the facts about the Holy Grail and to cut through the mystery that surrounds the subject. Has the truth about the Holy Grail been suppressed by the Catholic Church? Was Mary Magdalene the wife of Jesus and co-founder of Christianity? Has the Grail been kept safe by powerful secret societies? And is the real truth about the Grail encoded into Da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper?
As he embarks on his own personal Grail hunt, Robinson debunks the theories made in Brown's novel and looks at how the modern Grail obsession is just an elaborate hoax. To find out more about The Real Da Vinci Code please log on to www.HistoryTelevision.ca.
