Third season of Nashville star coming to CMT
Posted on Sunday, February 20, 2005 - 12:00 AM
Country Music Television

CMT announced today its plans to simulcast the third instalment of the hit talent search show, Nashville Star, on Tuesday, March 1 at 10 p.m. Canadians will have the chance to watch each show live and vote online to crown the next country superstar.

Hosted by Grammy Award®-winning recording artist LeAnn Rimes, the show features live performances by 10 finalists who must win over a panel of judges and an enthusiastic audience in Nashville. Each week, contestants will be eliminated based on the number of votes they receive until there is one grand prize winner, who will receive a recording contract with Universal South Records.

The 10 finalists, who will be announced on February 1, were chosen during a North American-wide search, which included a stop in Edmonton, Alberta. Four Canadians have reached the regional finals, including JR Vautour of New Brunswick, Greg Hanna of Ontario, and Albertans Aaron Jake Goodvin and Steve Arsenault.

Last year, Canadian George Canyon won the hearts and votes of the public and judges, and went on to become the runner-up, behind winner Brad Cotter. He signed a contract with Universal South Records and is now enjoying a successful recording career on both sides of the border.

Subsequent live episodes of Nashville Star 3 premiere Tuesdays at 10 p.m., with repeat broadcasts Thursdays at 9 p.m. and Sundays at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Viewers can vote online through a link at www.cmtcanada.com, or by visiting www.usanetwork.com/nashvillestar.

CMT is Canada’s source for country music videos, music-based programming, as well as drama series, awards shows, movies and specials. Launched in 1995, the network is now seen in almost 8 million Canadian homes. With over 1.6 million impressions each month, www.cmtcanada.com is Canada’s largest website dedicated to country music.
