CTV to Present Live, Commercial-Free Broadcast of The Concert for Tsunami Relief Saturday, Jan. 29
Posted on Thursday, January 06, 2005 - 08:11 PM
CTV

When Nettwerk artists Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, Barenaked Ladies and Delerium take to the stage in Vancouver later this month in support of tsunami disaster relief, CTV cameras will be rolling from every angle to broadcast the concert live across Canada.

CTV has joined forces with Vancouver-based Nettwerk Productions to be the broadcast partner for The Concert for Tsunami Relief, a two-hour, all-Canadian benefit concert to air live and commercial-free on CTV Saturday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. ET (check local listings). The concert will be broadcast live from Vancouver's GM Place.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to four charities to assist in the tsunami relief efforts in Southeast Asia. The four charities are: OXFAM Canada, Care Canada, Doctors Without Borders and War Child Canada.

"The response by Canadians in support of disaster relief efforts has been unprecedented," said Susanne Boyce, CTV's President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. "This concert is about artists thanking Canadians for their generosity, and we're proud to play a small role in bringing it to viewers everywhere."

Nettwerk Productions is also producing a second benefit concert to be held in Calgary on Monday, Jan. 31. The concert will feature performances from Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, Barenaked Ladies and Bruce Cockburn. Tickets for both concerts go on sale this Saturday, Jan. 8 at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.ca.

Information about the four charities benefiting from The Concert for Tsunami Relief can be found online at:

This week, CTV Inc. together with the Globe and Mail, donated $75,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief assistance. CTV's CEP local 79M also made a $25,000 donation.
